If you’ve been following our journey each week, you’ll know that our focus has very much been on the land, rather than the buildings on our farm up until now. But this week, that all changes and we get started on making our home more liveable, starting with some brand new wooden windows, made by the same carpenter who built the original ones 25 years ago! We love that.

  1. Hi Tara, John and that big boy Crusoe❣😘 That was one of the best of many other great and awesome videos❣ we see the aspect of John & Crusoe the "construction" Dude's. Tara, you amaze me as your load gets bigger and closer to "unload" that precious cargo, yet you're hands on with every part of the work on hand with cleaning, painting, cooking and being Mom and Wife. It's time to ease up and have at least a week. Holiday in the UK. I think you will have a healthy baby Girl.🥰💕🙏🏼😁. John,
Whoever said slivers are a lazy man's hand was a bloody fibbing drunk❣😂 Thank you for a great video of history on the farm and finding that Carpenter! Wowzee!🙏🏼❤💙💕

  2. Omg! John you have so much resilience and determination. I am sure you will best the roof he he he. And your little helper is very determined to leave his mark on thd house too 🙂
I hope you guys won't stop the videos whilst away… you would be missed!

  3. But late catching up this week, but it’s a wow to the windows and the rendering looks perfect. How wonderful to have the same guy making and installing as did the originals. John, that roof, I felt your pain. I just know, you don’t give up so I’m looking forward to next week. Oh boy, Crusoe, he’s an amazing little guy. Take care x

  4. Hope the roof goes well. Love the window/wall – looks fab , as if, it’s always been there. So pretty with the courtyard and flowers. Tara, you look very well . Fingers crossed baby can wait until it’s time. X

  5. I think that the roof is not going to plan because it's too high up for Crusoe to keep an eye on the work! 😉
Seriously though, I have complete faith in John to be able to whip things into shape and the roof too will come together; I just wish it was more fun than it clearly has been but getting the roof water tight, but it will be worth it to have another dry place to become another project further down the line that is more fun to complete.
So exciting that September and the arrival of the newest Newby is almost here! Sending you all the very best vibes for a super gentle labour (and a quick one too!), Tara *hugs *
Looking forward to your next video whenever the new little one allows 👶🍼
    xx

  6. Wow, what a great job you've done with the new window, it looks so natural fitting into it's new surroundings. I do feel for you John & the laborious task of removing the old malthoid roof. It reminded me of a similar task I took on many years ago with renovating an old house we'd bought that had old linoleoum tiles on the kitchen floor that badly needed removing before we could sand the timber back ready for a new floor. The tiles were backed with something resembling malthoid that stuck like glue to the timber floor, some lifted off easily but most didn't, so we attacked it with a spade like John did which was very helpful. I then had to use a blowtorch & chisel, on my hands & knees, over the whole floor to scrape off the remaining bits as trying to sand it was futile, it simply turned into hard glassy lumps. After injuring both thumbs from holding the chisel so long endlessly scraping till the job was done & a beautiful floor eventually resulted but no-one got to see what it took in the process… just a long difficult & boring task. Some jobs are like that & someone's gotta do it. Well done John, you deserve a beer, cheers from New Zealand. Looking forward to seeing your new Newby when that day comes.
