Part 2 of the Outhouse build. I continue the frame of the outhouse I’m building solo from scratch. I’m building a dual outhouse that will contain an outdoor dry toilet as well as a shower as an interim solution while I renovate my farm structure.

About Girl Meets Farm:
I’m Christine. I started this journey in search of my forever farm in Portugal, and now I have found it!
This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.
Now that we have found our farm, the second stage of our journey begins!
I have to figure out farm life while renovating an agricultural structure to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.
Thank you for joining our journey!

Well done you 👏🏼. Very organic😸
I suggest you use screws rather than nails, put in a small pilot hole first, its much easier to get in straight and disassemble if required. A battery drill/driver makes life so much easier.
Pre-drilling holes and then assembling with screws would make your work go faster and also would make disassembly much easier later when you no longer need this structure.
If u pilot the timber, drill a hole, in the first piece of timber, it acts as a guide and makes nailing so much easier. Alternatively, if u have plenty of money, buy a nail gun,; you'll nail things for fun then 😀
Happy Birthday! many blessings on your new life!
👏🌟👍🍀💐
Hi ya,
Great couple of videos on this build..
You're doing FANTASTIC! Regards the wood. Drill pilot holes slightly narrower than the nails through the first piece of timber then hammer into the second. However the better option would be to use Lag bolts/coach bolts, or heavy duty exterior screws and drill pilot holes (slightly narrower than the screw threads) then screw into that and the threads will grip the wood (obviously youll benefit from a cordless high impact driver) but they're not mega expensive now (if you just get a good quality DIY one maybe a half decent own brand or whatever from like Aldi or Lidl etc?) they have interchangeable batteries with other powertools on their range so if you need other tools then you have options without forking out for batteries every time and they have a 3 year warranty so if you keep the receipt and they break money back or exchange!! That would be my advice!
Also a CHEAP and excellent way to both preserve the wood, kill bugs and make it but resistant aswell as weather and rot resistant and even fire resistant is to burn/char the outside look up ok YouTube "Shou Sugi Ban" it's cheap and easy! You burn it using either a gas blow torch or can build a small fire pit fire and move the wood through it to just char the outside (bit a blow torch is more controlled) takes a few minutes per board.. then brush off the excess char with a wire brush and job done it reveals the grain aswell so esthetically it looks good too! (you can add oil after if you want but it's not necessary and Japanese buildings last 2000 years using this!) So I think you're good for 6months lol 😂🤣
Hope this helps also both now and with future projects! Love your energy and live your channel you're living the dream I've wanted to do for last 3 years so hopefully I'll get to before house market crashes too much for me to sell!
Keep up the good work!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! ❤️👍🥳🎉
Cheers from London 👍😎🏴
🌸🌸🌸🍻🍻
Happy birthday. In the future you might want to get a power screwdriver it will be so much easier for you.
Hi,
Looks like exciting times on your farm. The outhouse is getting on well.
If you struggling with the nails getting through, try and drill a hole that is 1mm bigger than the nail on the piece of timber in the front only and your nails should go in no problem.
Good luck on the build.
I do carpentry in the UK. Planning on moving to Portugal in the next year, so jealous of your life there, looks so good. 👌🏻👍🏻
Doing good Christine!
Keep on Killing it ))
Happy birthday💐🎂💐first of all….get some shade over you whilst working on the outhouse!! Also maybe a silly question or I have missed something…but why an outhouse??? Wasnt there a toilet somewhere on the property so that you could use the existing waste pipes?
HAPPY BIRTHADAY!!! 🥰👏👏👏🌺💯💢💗🌷🌸💐🌻🌹🦋
Cristina!!! You are amaizing!!!
Well done!! Many blessings!!
Much love 💕 fron Puerto Rico! 🌴🐠🏝🌎🌅 we are moving to Portugal fundão!! Soon!! 🍒🍇

Wishing you love , Joy and Glory!!💫🙏🏼🙌💐
Good luck with the build, wife and I busy with the process to relocate to PT from SA as soon as possible. Keep up the hard work and kewl videos.
Happy birthday, Christine!🎂🎁🎉 Glad you took some well-deserved time off to spoil and enjoy yourself on your special day.
Those river beaches are so beautiful and peaceful. ..just the perfect place to restore one's inner peace .
"Wonky Loo" – love the name you chose…It put a smile on my face.
Great project and going very well so far! Don't envy you the heavy lifting. Not easy if you don't have a helper to hold or keep planks in place while one works.
I am just as impressed with the Bluetti as you are. Amazing portable unit making life easier for you.
Your trusted helper(s) 😊
Love how Tobias has just 'taken over' in such a short time there with you – ever watching over you and watching the dogs too!
The guy strimming …what a huge help he has already been to you in saving you time to do other tasks. Would be great to have him do the strimming on a regular basis.
Well done, once again, Christine. Can't wait to see the final product.
Yes pre drilling then screwing will make it easier and quicker. It will be hard to undo to move the structure with nails. Admire your perseverance. Happy Birthday 🙂
Happy Birthday Christine!
Happy Birthday! 🎂
Beijinhos.
💕You’ll be building shelves & all sorts of furniture now you know how easy it is💕
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you, maybe your cat 🐈 has worm's they have it from the mousses they eat.
Found your channel a few days ago! Very pleasant to watch, and great jobs done already on your farm. I (a woman of 60+) love DIY myself. Admire your approach in building the little shower/toilet house. I agree with previous comments though – pre drill and use screws! A lot easier but most of all you get a solid structure. Congrats on your Birthday. All the best, from Sweden💛💙, Katarina
drill holes in hard wood then nail
Happy birthday Christine. Well done on yiur WC. Invest in battery power tools.. You can charge them with the bluetti and all that wonderful solar energy in portugal for free
🎂Happy birthday! 🌸Happy birthday! 💗Happy birthday! 🐳 The farm is looking good and you sound determined to carry on. Bravo! Are you going to place cement blocks under the wood frame of the bathroom?
I would agree use a mechanical advantage and invest in a cordless impact drill set so as to use screws instead of nails also useful for many other labor intensive activities.
Is it possible that Tonias has worms? Or maybe just a real good appetite. 😅😅
You are Awesome!
You have just kept my attention for the whole 1'11 minutes, previous episode. It's like I'm in a dream watching your videos, It's exactly how I wish to live and how I see my future.
It's very bizarre and also very enjoyable and also say's that it's the right desicion. I'm a cabinet maker wood man and have seemed to have missed you by a year. I can't wait to be on my own land creating. All the best Christine.
Happy Birthday Christine🥂🎂🍱🍣🍣🍤💐
drill with small drill bit before hammer the nail. the drill bit must be smaller than the nail. all the best
Happy birthday for the weekend Chris lots of ❤️Tony xxx
feliz aniversário 🙂
Happy birthday Christine at least your trying not a bad build for a diy, invest in a cordless ratchet screwdriver and try using screws much easier.
The Wonky-drop 😂 you'll have to make a sign which will be a conversation starter 🤔it will have character and be 1 of a kind 👌 Happy birthday and enjoy the treat 🍣🥂
Making great progress. Kitty may need a dewormer. Happy Birthday. Best wishes.
Happy birthday and take it easy ! Enjoy the sushis !
Thumb up for your construction !
Well done ! Make it easier with screws
🎂🎂🎂🍰🍰🍰🍾🍾🍾🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂 🍣🍣🍣🍣🥢🥢🥢🥢
Happy Birthday Christine. Good start on the outhouse!. For future projects, try using screws instead of nails. A screw gun would be a great investment for your future projects. Much easier to work with and screws are removable.
Your working very hard, enjoying the video's. May be on your project use screws for joining larger timbers.
Whether to use nails or screws ?
