Over 60, solo and off-grid in Central Portugal / Time to set new goals

It was hard to say goodbye to the anonymous plumber who went above and beyond the past fortnight. The time has come to do a reset and make some new goals. Watch to the very end of the video for a cuteness overload.
Thanks to all who bought the pigs a watermelon and gave a Super Thanks!

  1. You are inspiring. Thank you. I'm 54, solo and really struggle some days. When I feel like I can't do it, I watch your videos.

I hope one day I can encourage others also.

Thank you for sharing your journey.

  2. Love your hair cut! Congratulations on the birth of your grandson!🥰 You have accomplished so much! Hopefully soon you will get some break in the weather and will have much needed rain! Love from California! 😍🤩

  3. Congratulations on becoming a granny. I so enjoy watching your achievements. I live in Gordon's Bay, Cape town. I am 72 and do all my own gardening myself on a large plot so I can relate to your hard work. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing all your goals achieved. Regards Sue Kuhn.

  4. Congratulations for the new grandbaby. 😍
I'm so glad your water problems are solved.
I think insulating and winterizing your living space should be your priority, before cold weather comes.
It will be here before you know it!

  5. Being a grandmother is so wonderful. Fortunately I know the feeling because I am also a grandmother(I have two granddaughters and one grandson. The little boy is only 16 months old. He is starting to talk and it is so amusing!) Congratulations. May he visit you one day and be proud of his brave grandmother.

  6. Hello, Cindy. What a pleasure it was to watch this video. You are the epitome of 'what gets measured gets done.' With regard to the comment that people don't do things because they are nice. What a sad commentary on that person's experiences. Many people love to volunteer for something that they consider to be worthwhile. You have so many friends in your growing community who all do things for you (think Ang giving you a new and stylish hairstyle) so I think that you can attest to people doing things because they are nice in every single video of yours. Congratulations on your first grandchild. Sending you much love from South Africa.

  7. Congratulations! I am the same age as you and my first grandchild is hopefully being born today. Labour is in progress. Disagree that we are old women, come back tell me that in 20 years. Xxx

  8. 2 helpful hints: save a few plastic bottles to make mini greenhouses. Keeps pests like snails away, keeps plants hydrated, protects little plants until they're sting enough and big enough to stand on their own. Been a plant saver in our school garden. Use some cardboard to stop weeds around fruit trees. Just put a little soil on top to stop it blowing away. Looking great! How wonderful to take stuff off your to do list! Well done. 👏

  9. 🎉Huge congratulations on all your accomplishments so far and for the happy arrival of your first grandchild 🤗. And Heaven bless Anonymous Plumber abundantly for his wonderful work!

Andrea did a great job and your new haircut is super cute! Looking very refreshed there Cindy with your fresh cut and new plumbing systems🎉!

May i offer ideas with revisiting and tweaking your goals?

Among your top goals, please make becoming proficient enough with your wonderful infrastructure systems to do your own basic trouble shooting — solar, electrical, water systems (collection, distribution, sewage), etc. This will cement the foundation of your self-sufficiency.

Another could be to shift from make-do approach to tasks to laser-focus all that same energy into fully realizing more successes. This should greatly lessen efforts and euros on doing things more than once. Fails, while facilitating learning oppoturnities, can liberally allow your money to evaporate. So if we regard successes as guarding your future income, your sweat equity, and your investments so far, that can very much guide your decisions and where to invest limited time & money. Example, planting is a fraction of resulting in produce: watering, adjusting the soil/sunlight exposure as needed, and constantly weeding accounts for more than half… as animal husbandry keeps your animals well, similar intentions to your plants should yield desired results. Do restart small to give youtself room to learn & adjust.

Respecting your sweat: Remember how the old original pointing of your cottage seem slap-dashed? A tad more care with sealing the back of your barbeque would likely yielded enough mortar to seal another hole or more in your granite bench, yeah? Seems a small matter, but it's more a mindset to help get the most out of your earnings, right? I so look forward with you to seeing the bench filled, beautifully pointed, and your digs being mouse unfriendly 😊!

This said, i love your new list of your big and small tasks. The smaller tasks seem very focused 👍🏼! 💪🏻👩🏻‍🦳
