Parents Visit My Off Grid Tiny House in Central Portugal

My parents finally made it to Portugal to see me and it was amazing to have them here! This video shows a bit of their 2.5 weeks here but, honestly, there’s no way I could do their trip justice without making a feature length film!

They did SO much work here and my place was totally transformed! I didn’t capture all of the work they did, but I think i did manage to capture the vibe and to share the fun we had. Perhaps I’ll do a part two one of these days but, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it. There are some pretty funny bits in it, I think, and I think it’s my best video yet!

Here are some links to places I talk about:

Quinta da Barroquinha –
Keela Permaculture Farm –

  1. Is ur dad a Scotsmen? I lived in Picton ontario, (outside Belleville), the only job I could get as a migrant was night cleaner at mcdonalds. The other guy, cleaner, was a scotsman . He was the only person who cursed as much as me, he made me feel welcome, go figure.

  2. HAHAHA🤣I see where you get your sense of humour. The blue door most undoubtedly will keep the evil spirits at bay.😎and a great colour to boot. It was your original choice from a previous video, right?

  3. This video is one for you to treasure, Kirsty. It took me into the closet to dig out an old black and white photo of me saying goodbye to my parents at a station near Barcelona. You are so right, that knowing you have that support gives you the stability and peace of mind to forge ahead into uncharted territory.

  4. As a fellow Scot living in Portugal and watching your videos yes, your dad is hilarious and clearly when I first started following you I thought you were so bloody funny to . Now I know where you get it from . How lovely to have them here and helping you on your tiny house and land . Hopefully they will return and see the progress you make.

  5. The Scots accent is so strong, it never gets lost, wherever they may wander! Lovely video showing their visit, the work you all got done and your visits to friends and local area. Very interesting and well done all!

  6. That was so fun! and Kudos to your mom for diving into that spath lilly. I'm sure they will be back just as soon as you upgrade your composting toilet system. LOL. That reminds me, have you seen Geoff Lawton's video on the wheelie bin composting toilet system? I think that's the one I want to try building.

  7. Well done Kirsty from your extended family in Scotland. You have come a long way from the wee baby girl we were first introduced to in Stewarton. PS we still have the photographs of you and Nicola (as nature intended) playing on the lawn at aunt Ritas

  8. Your parents are so lovely ! I wish they could have stayed longer, hopefully they r coming back soon 💞. So happy to see your work progressing well! 😍😍
