Documents !!!!!! Documents!!!!! We are Belgians and got married here in Portugal last year…. Documents were a nightmare!
Moreover we chose to get married according to the Belgian law because my husband was 62 and I was 58 : which changed a lot of things in portuguese law. Last and not least, my husband was born in Belgian Congo (country that doesn't exist anymore) We had to go to Brussels to the Embassy of the (New) Republic of Congo to have his birth certificate because the Congolese embassy in Lisbon was not allowed to deliver the certificate! WELL!!!! 😭😭😭
The 23rd of October we finally got married surrounded by our best Portuguese friends and one Belgian friend. And, oh, I almost forgot : we were recovering from Covid! 😂😂🤣🤣
Follow me for my next chapter : to build a house in a protected area in Portugal. Tears and loosing control at the program. 😉🤣😭😂❤️😜
So sorry that you had to go through all of that but so glad that in the end you tied the knot. You and I share the same wedding date. I was married on 6/3/1995 and we still going strong 💞Congratulations to you both, Parabéns aos dois!
Congratulations for your wedding! I am so sorry you had to deal with all the stress. I am getting married next month in Germany which is also not my homecountry and the paperwork was also a nightmare… but at the end everything turned out fine and I am just hoping to have a beautiful wedding such as yours!! Wish you the best to you and your husband and puppy ❤️
Congrats Liz! As an Iranian living in Portugal for 6 years, I totally understand all the difficulties you have been through. For every step taken in the bureaucracy process in Portugal, I have suffered a lot, I have faced mean people and I have cried after leaving the place. I do not like to be disgraceful but that´s a reality that has occurred to me. I wish people were at least a bit more friendly.
Thank you for sharing! This information is very useful. I am so glad it all worked out in the end! Your wedding looked amazing, and you both look stunning!
Unfortunately we are the proud inventors of the paper to request the paper
I'm an expat living in Cascais, but originally from Nevada. My advice – Las Vegas is the answer to all wedding planning issues! BTW, this is a great language channel. It has really helped me with Portuguese.
Congratulations Liz! God bless you! Wishing you a long years of happy married life together.
Parabens Liz!!! The food waste company ReFood that you donated your leftover food to was actually the charity I volunteered for back in 2017 when I first moved to Lisbon!! Their team are incredible!
Parabéns!
You are both absolutely glowing in your footage ✨ What a special day!! "Nothing worth having, comes easy" 😘 Great advice. 333rd lucky like ❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations, Liz!!! I wish for you a happy marriage.
Parabéns pelo o casamento lindo! We have lived in Portugal since 2014. It has many pros! However the major con is the simply awful "customer service" (quotation marks necessary!) It's very true as you say that wages are meager and working hours quite long. HOWEVER – those wages are badly needed and are dependent on how happy you keep your customers! Especially in small family owned businesses, yet they simply don't seem to be bothered. We've had treatment that is basically just rude in small and large businesses – all we want to do is give them our money!! Those working in government offices are sadly the same.
Congratulations!
Congrats
Parabéns Liz. You and your handsome groom looked like you had stars in your eyes and you were absolutely beautiful.
Oh Portugal… Land of Azulejos, Calçada and Bureaucratic Nightmares. Good thing you plan to only do it once x
We had to get all of the apostiles for me for both our marriage license from Florida and my drivers license. Scary sending your only legal I.D. through the mail.
You look lovely <3
That’s so great that everything finally worked out for you, regardless of the mean lady! One sees these civil servants in all countries acting rudely and cannot help but wonder, “Do they treat everyone so badly every day of their lives? They must becarrying one heck of a Karmic debt!
Wow!!!! Excellent video and very useful tips… I felt for you both!!! So glad it all went well in the end.. everything looked stunning and your dress is beautiful !!! Parabens e Beijinhos 🥂
Oh my God! Congratulations dear Liz! I wish all the best to you and your husband 🥰♥️ you are gorgeous!!!
Congratulations, you look beautiful. May you have a long and happy marriage. Jenny Langford
Parabéns a si e ao Mike. What a story! "Should have gone to Vegas." Indeed! A good lesson for the rest of us living here: turn on the charm. Wish I'd know that when I handed over my US driver's license. I will utilize it for the upcoming renewal.
You can complain, there's the livro de reclamações
Congrats, Liz and Mike!! Wishing you both many happy, healthy years together!! What a beautiful ceremony, despite the hoops you had to jump through to make it happen!! Beijinhos, Jacqui xx
I absolutely love your videos, Liz 🥰😘⚘
congrats! Sweet voice😊
Congratulations
congratulations!!
Toda a felicidade do mundo para ambos. Um belo casal 💕
Congratulations not only on your beautiful wedding but your success with the various bureaucratic agents. I feel your pain. We've learnt 'the rule of the camera/IMT etc'… that is: expect at least three visits even if you have all the correct documentation. I think it's a condition for such agencies to not accept/grant anything first time. It was hilarious on one occasion when we given the usual "Não volte outra hora" when the 'mean lady' asked "is it your first time here?", we explained it was our third she reluctantly said oh okay then you can have said document. I think I may just tell them it's my third visit next time I need to apply for something! It's exhausting. Glad it all got sorted in the end for you and wishing you a wonderful future together.
I believe those unfortunate situations have little to do with salaries or being undervalued. It has roots in the culture, of how people expect some level of respect in many relationships, even when they screw up, and how they approach criticism and professionalism. It doesn’t matter if they are well payed, an employee or the employer, in many situations the first reaction will be to try to shift the blame to some other guy, company or situation, or even say that you are wrong, they don’t like to be put on the line. People let those feelings get the better of them, and you might actually see some passive aggressive behaviour, mixed with inferiority complex.
Happy wedding! Please share more wedding photos! 💕💕💕
