A German cruise ship with more than four thousand passengers on board has been stranded at Lisbon port, as seen on Saturday after at least 50 crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

The ship was bound for the Canary Islands, where it was due to arrive next week, but the detection of positive cases prevented the AIDA Nova ship from continuing the journey.

According to local media, the ship is set to stay grounded until at least Sunday. The cases were detected in routine tests and the COVID-positive crew members were removed from the ship and are being held in isolation in Lisbon hotels.

No cases were registered among passengers so far. All people on board had passed a screening test and showed proof of vaccination before the ship set sail.
