Magnet in the D7 visa is increasing among third-country citizens. Furthermore, due to Portugal’s positioning as a select country for retirees, digital nomads, and holders of stagnant payment (such as crypto-shares, financial investments, property income, or dividends) due to the grade and low cost of living it offers, mixed with the Non-Habitual Resident (NHR) tax regime.
The procedure starts in the country of origin. It permits the applicant to travel to Portugal and acquire a residency permit by establishing the passive income and the different generic requirements associated with the attribution of the privilege of residence (scarcity of criminal record or proof of housing, for instance). With the D7, the holder may live and work in Portugal, reunite the family, ventilate within the Schengen area and acquire Portuguese nationality after five years. It is associated with a more extended duration of stay in Portugal (analogised to the Golden Visa), but the regulation provides some peculiarities that drive it very handsome.
Cumulatively, the NHR status can be involved for – a tax (but not immigration) status that authorises any citizen of nationality (and is therefore also available to European citizens) to help form a more favourable personal tax regime for ten years.
A 20% flat rate on earnings from high value-added movements in Portugal and exemption with references to taxation of foreign-source revenue through employment, self-employment, capital, or property income if they fulfil particular requirements, such as taxation in the nation of origin, following the double surcharge compact completed by Portugal with that country.
