Portugal, LISBON: Baixa de Lisboa, Praça do Comércio, Mercado da Ribeira

Hello Portugal! Lisbon has one very famous flat area downtown called Baixa de Lisboa (or simply Baixa), which is full of things to do and perfect to walk around. This is what you’ll see in this video. We start at Praça do Comércio (Commerce square), then go up the Rua Augusta Arch, walk along Rua Augusta, where we enjoy wine tasting and ice cream.

After a quick stop at Elevador de Santa Justa, the famous elevator connecting Baixa to Chiado, we walk to Rossio square. In this square, they have the pavement that inspired sidewalks all over the world. Finally, we cross Baixa again towards Cais do Sodré, walk along Pink Street (probably the most famous street for the after-party nightlife in Lisbon), and arrive at the historic Mercado da Ribeira, where today you find the trendy Time Out Market. Here you can sample dishes prepared by top Portuguese chefs in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

This trip to Lisbon was before the pandemic.

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with about 3 million people living in the metropolitan area. This is more than a quarter of the entire population of Portugal. It is located on the Iberian Peninsula, where the river Tagus meets the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon is mainland Europe’s westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world… stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he’s actually camera-shy, that’s why he’s behind the camera most of the time 😉

  1. Renata, excellent videos. My wife and daughter and I are planning a quick trip to Lisbon over Thanksgiving holidays, what's your suggestion for Lisbon in 5 days? Best area to stay for a hotel?

  2. OMG that ice cream looks beyond yummy and a macaron on top HELLO worth going to Lisbon just for that. BTW super informative video you are doing a wonderful job. I’m going there this September 🤞🏼.

  3. I have fond memories of visiting Lisbon with my late friend. Funny story; on one of the streets that branches off Commerce Square we were constantly asked if we wanted to buy hashish. 😂

  4. I just discovered your YT channel Renata. I'm originally from Venezuela and I've been living in the States for almost 5 years, I visited Lisbon in 2014 and I felt in love with the city and the culture, they are so similar to Venezuelan way of living and on top of that Portuguese people is so charming, kind and humble, I just felt like home over there. Thanks for making me go back to that gorgeous city thru your videos. Keep up with the good work that you do with the videos. Besos y abrazos. Greetings from Connecticut.

  5. Love your videos. They make me miss Portugal. One of my tricks to going up from Baixa to Largo do Chiado, and to avoid the elevator, is enter the H&M on in Rua Do Carmo and take the escalator up – then just exit the store from that level. I confess that I shopped at the same time, so I didn’t use the H&M just as a walkthrough.

  6. It's funny.. I was born and living in Lisbon.. Always had tourists but with some quality and not in great number.. After 2016 and until 2019 we, the Lisbon people, can't stand anymore milions or hundred thousands in the city, most of them never heard about Portugal or Lisbon.. The city became a Hell, with all of you, became incaracteristic in shops, bars, tascas, restaurants etc because of you, and is cheap and the less expensive place to go in Europe.. Everything write in English… Do you all only know Lisbon recently..? Why..? It's "fashionable" and cheap… We don't need you, find other places to go, Lisbon is small, can't stand crowded… If you only now discovered Lisbon, you are a bunch of ignorant people.. Things change and in the faraway future will be a more quiet city with some quality tourists.. Not the same anymore. We, really and sorry to write this, can't stand you anymore.. Thousands of ordinary bunch if tourists in every corner or places just to take pictures, eat cheap a drink heavy..

  7. Is so cool travel renata. In there was many old built ,old town Lisbon. I can remember was about history portuguese when they built Sao Paulo or otherwise known Nostra Senhora del Rosario fort 16s century 1522 since Antonio Brito as gouveurner Portuguese and over when Garcia Henriquez lead 1525 in Moluken island. They built was many fort in east Indonesia archipelago like Ternate island there was Sao Paulo fort and St Lucia fort built kerk in dutch language or church catolic was built in 16s century, moluken Banda like Belgica fort was built 1579 island and Timor flores island. And now society there still was use Portuguese language like in Timor island, for distric area from portuguese colony. And this make it history about spice 16s century in archipelago and europe Portugal
