  1. Someone asked are there our people in Portugal and you answered of course, but I think that is a valid question. I don't know how many American black people are living abroad but I know in my experience living in France there were not a lot of black Americans living there as ex-pats! Please tell us what visa you have and how much time do you have there? I had difficulty getting an appointment to renew my visa but it all worked out for the best

  2. About the recommendation to "not speak Spanish to a Portuguese" — I disagree. (I'm Portuguese.)
If you only speak English and Spanish, and you find a Portuguese that does not speak English, then by all means speak Spanish with him/her, because unless your Spanish is awful, they will understand you! If there is one language that both of you understand — be it Spanish, Russian or Klingon — why ignore that and impede communication?!
What you should NOT do is passing the idea that you think Portuguese and Spanish are the same language! You must make it clear that (1) you know Portuguese is its own language; (2) you resort to Spanish because that's what you know.
So, instead of just speaking Spanish, start by explaining your limitation: start by apologising in Portuguese ("Desculpe!" — Dsh-COOLp) and then continue with e.g. "Desgraciadamente no hablo el portugués, que es una léngua muy difícil…" (Portuguese people LOOOVE being told their language is difficult…), then "¿Podría ayudarme?"
Here and there, drop a comment oh how incredible it is that the Portuguese understand the Spanish, but usually not the other way around. We love being reminded of that one superiority over our neighbours. 😀

  3. For the vaccine, first you have to be enrolled in your local Public Health Center.
Vaccination follows a priority list: if you are older, if you have a pre-existing condition that increases your risk, or if you're a doctor, a nurse, etc., then you have higher priority than other people that don't tick any of those boxes.
When your time arrives to be vaccinated, you will receive a text message stating the place and time you should show up for vaccination.
But again, that only happens if you're enrolled in the Portuguese public health system.

  4. I love your channel. No way I cannot believe you are an introvert. I am the queen of introvert 🤣 This gives me hope. If you can do this you absolutely give me so much confidence that I could move there all by my self. Thank you so much for sharing. Obrigada 😁

  5. Thanks so much for your post: your humor, candor, and charm. Kudos.
I’d like to spend several months in Portugal. (Passed through Lisbon a few years ago: loved it!) I speak Portuguese. I’d be very grateful for any ideas on how I might work out a hook-up: teaching English, teaching expats Portuguese, or other possibilities. Thanks for your consideration!

  6. Bom dia! Como estas? Gostei do teu vídeo. Sou portuguesa, Americana . Vivi na US muitos anos.
I hope you’re understand what I wrote in Portuguese.
    Keep learning Portuguese.

  7. Hi Cinnamon! Thank you for another lovely video! Please, How is the city where you live spelled? I’d like to research it. Also have you been to Setubal? If so, I’d love your thoughts on the vibe. I’m also an introvert and can really relate! 🙏

  8. Hi there Cinnamon! Welcome to Portugal. It's always nice to hear people saying nice things about my country.

To all of you out there who are trying to learn Portuguese, I teach online, if you're interested, let me know.

  9. I recommend you watch videos in your target language, read kindle books, in your target language, write in it, and join a language learning app like Italki. You will naturally find friends this way.Great job in your bravery and living your life how you want. Best wishes and you go gurl!

  10. Well I was born in funchal Madeira and live in uk for 40yrs, and find it difficult to speak my language. It's funny that I have ask my family to speak slow. Well done Cinnamon for moving to Portugal and learning a different culture 😇

  11. Your videos are always so timely! Every time I think about Portugal, I find a video that you posted! I can't wait to get back. I recently traveled there a few months before the pandemic in Jan. 2020. If I could get there now, I would. 🙂

  12. I would like to get a bit more connected to what’s going on in Portugal and your channel along with the “Our Rich Journey” family have been fantastic with conveying your experiences there. I live in the Washington DC area (Upper Marlboro) and would like to plan a trip there sometime in the next year or so. When would you say is the best time of year to plan a trip there? I’m considering where I might like to retire (in about 6/7 years). After all the madness in the US this past year, I’m thinking that I need to look at other options outside of the US that are a bit more peaceful and affordable.

  13. i just want to say I love your videos! I don't plan to go to Portugal, but Lady you've inspired me to do some serious slow travel/vacation. Portugal will be on the list, but your info is so important to safe travel, but inspiring to travel!!!! Looking forward to more videos and your straight forwardness is refreshing!

  14. I recommend listening to the news to gain better understanding. By all means just start speaking it. People will appreciate the effort and even help you. Cheers

  15. Hi cinnamon, it’s funny the first question about black Americans is if Portugal has black people when are we going to live in this world without making color skin pls people why? This is why the world is like this because it’s always about color of skin… well I’m originally from the Azores part of Portugal and we as Portuguese people we don’t care what color of skin but we do care about your dignity and what kind of person are you for example if you’re a killer, thief, liar etc. so basically someone that we can’t trust period that’s what we care about because we are warm people even tho sometimes specially old people from small towns they may seem that they don’t like you but it’s not what it looks like, it’s just the fact that they don’t know you and because you’re a stranger, but when we build this trust and get to know who you are we’re welcome people and very warmly but anyway enough with this I just would like you to welcome to my little Portugal and hope you can visit the Azores as well you would love here as well if you like nature let’s put it this way if you like Hawaii well our islands are called according from foreigns that it’s the Hawaii islands from Europe lol. Welcome and lots of good luck God bless you and keep it 👍❤️

  16. I received the email for the class however I am working different hours. What is the time (US) of the classes it will begin? Is it mornings or evenings? I do customer service from 11:00 am – 7:30 pm. Just wondering if I would be able to participate. Do you have classes on Saturday?

  17. I'm so sorry I missed this, I would love to have been there to support you xx
It was fun watching you chatting with Ana, we're good friends. She's a Doll!
Definitely missed you! Abraços e Beijinhos x

  18. Dont know if someone said it already, but Spanish is a phonetic language, unlike Portuguese, so you have as many vowel sounds as vowel letters. Portuguese is more like French in that sense. We have all the à, á, è, é, í, ó, ú, not to mention the position thei're in also changes the sound.

  19. I absolutely love it that you are learning Portuguese. I know it is not an easy language to learn. But I think it is a beautiful one. I am Portuguese (born and raised), and I feel honored by your effort.

  20. I looked up to see what the "T" stands for and it said it stands for Type. Enjoyed you catching up with us and all the info you send our way. Have a good week!

  21. Hey Cinnamon! Enjoy seeing you! Thanks for keeping everyone posted on what’s going on in Portugal. I look forward to returning, love and miss Lisboa. Yes , straight flight out of DC, 7hrs 15min. Fique seguro!

  22. How did I miss this!? I miss you girl! I heard you slide a Portuguese word in there…it just rolled off, and you didn't even notice it! (when you said the driver said it was cold). You should look at one of your videos when you first got there compared to now; you look so much more peaceful. Keep keeping it real, Spicey. I'll let you know when I'm "rollin' out" 🙂

  23. I live outside of DC, I agree, as an introvert myself, I really miss face to face interaction. As a Functional Medicine coach, I’m not afraid of all the virus stuff. I am really interested in moving to Europe, I would love Italy or even Germany or France.
