@Gilda and Carl re: housing and gentrification issues. I have reviewed many properties for sale in Portugal. The properties in central Portugal are often beautiful but unuseable for a couple of reasons. Rustic designations mean urban (residential) buildings cannot be constructed. The land is therefore often abandoned for various reasons.
Part 2 is that if there is an existing house or ruin on an urban article, it is usually too small and cannot be enlarged.
If the restrictions regarding urban parcels was relaxed somewhat to 100 or 150 square metres constructed area, once the word got out, many people would be willing to salvage these properties including me.
This would bring an economic boost for contractors, retail, etc., etc. Villages would have impetus to revisit their former glory. Current owners of the properties that are for sale would find they would sell for higher prices and that money would go in their pockets, not out.
@Thoughts from the redwoods James. Hi James. Good discussion on choices. Years ago I was severely ripped off by a close friend. I don't think they even realized it. It troubled me every time their name came up. I finally realized I had a choice… to remain angry or to 'give' them what they took. I never said anything to the person as it was an internal act necessary for me. Instant relief.
