Portugal. The Man started off as a group of teens playing music in Wasilla, Alaska. Fast forward 21 years, 8 albums, a Grammy Award, and billions of streams later and they are now one of the biggest names in alternative rock today.
In this episode, I connect with the singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Gourley to discuss what life was like growing up in Alaska with his larger than life parents, the creative process behind the music, and how the band is using their success to make an impact in the indigenous community through the PTM foundation.
We also chat about what’s next for the band, and how John has learned to embrace his anxiety as a force for good.
If you’d like to help support the PTM foundations missions to raise awareness and build communities around indigenous populations check out their website!

Thanks for uploading the full thing! Great insight into John, Jaws and the new album and of course Anxiety. Thank you!
This was great. PTM was my late high school / early college obsession so I've seen just about every interview with them on youtube and this is probably the most relaxed and candid I've seen John, props to you for facilitating that. Great conversation all around!
He’s so cool. Awesome interview !!
👏👏👏 good shit
