STORYLINE:
Portugal is tightening control in all airports, sea ports and land borders as part of new rules that come into force from the early hours of December 1st.
All passengers coming by sea and air will have to provide proof of a negative test upon arrival – the only exception being for people with a recovery certificate. Vaccinated passengers will have to provide a negative test, same as non-vaccinated passengers.
Those trying to enter the country through mainland borders, travelling from Spain, will have to comply with a variation of rules depending on how their point of origin is assessed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control– from low risk to high risk (red areas).
Passengers travelling from EU countries with low or moderate level risk assessments must show proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test.
Passengers coming from red areas and those from outside of the European Union must provide a negative test – PCR or antigen.
Those who refuse to show a negative test or refuse to do one upon arrival will be fined.
