Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. I went to Spain and Morocco 4 years ago and I could not get enough of the wonderful tiles. No weirdo man-horse ones though, that must be a Portuguese specialty.

i’m from Portugal and yes, azulejos are everywhere, also inside our homes! and i believe they are traditionally blue due to the influence of the age of discoveries, since historically Portugal navigated to Asian countries (as well as South America and Africa). I believe Chinese porcelain designs were desirable at the time, which is why they share commonalities! hope this helps 🙂
