I’m always amazed when people don’t know that Portugal is its own country and has almost nothing to do with Spain other than being on the same peninsula.

When I was moving to Portugal, I was asked multiple times if I was learning Spanish and had to educate even some already well-educated people that I was learning Portuguese because yes, Portugal has their own language.

Where does this idea that Spain and Portugal are somehow the same thing come from? It’s still a mystery to me, and it’s totally fine. I don’t mind if Portugal remains the best kept secret among all of us who get live and experience it 🥰
