A few weeks ago a team of volunteers picked our olives and now it’s time to put the oil to the taste test! Let’s see how our (free) virgin olive oil stacked up against three other Portuguese varieties – from one that’s quite basic to one that’s quite fancy.
We’ll also try some of our brined olives, some homemade pear cider, some plum wine (made with fruit donated to us by our neighbours) and a Portuguese inspired meal for lunch.
So, join us for some foodie fun and a spot of cooking.

The total amount of oil produced from the 20 trees on our land and another 10 or so from our neighbours field was 60 litres of oil. We received 15 litres from the pickers free of charge and gave 5 to our neighbours as a thank you for letting us pick their trees.

The Story So Far
—————————
My name’s Guy. My wife Kylie and I bought an abandoned stone farmhouse and almost an acre of land in the autumn of 2020 and have been slowly (but surely) restoring it and bringing it back to its former glory. We’re renovating the house (doing most of the work ourselves) and rejuvenating the land and we’re living off grid in a large bell tent while we complete the works with a goal of building a semi-self-sufficient homestead.
Stay tuned to see what we get up to and follow our progress.
