PRAIA D’EL REY on the Silver Coast of Portugal is the location of two of our favourite housesits.
We had only been there in winter, so it was great to have the opportunity to see this beautiful golf resort in summer! We were there in June and July for 5 weeks, looking after 2 gorgeous huskies.
It was a great opportunity to show viewers the huge contrast between the quiet winter months and the bustling summer months!
In this video we show:
Busy Praia d’el Rei beach
Seafood restaurant
Outside the mini market
Excellent fruit and vegetable stall nearby

Great video-thanks!
You should do commercials for that wine! Your reaction made me want to go out and buy a couple of bottles.
Love watching ☺️ I hope to meet u both And we will go to Marriott for dinner
We stayed there for a month last September. We would drive past that market all the time not realizing it was a market for everyone 🤦🏼♀️nice video, brought back memories. 😊
What a lovely place. And I just loved the vegetable market! Such a fun video 😊
That sign at 6:50 marks the border of a "zona concessionada", which means something like a zone that was leased or granted to a private company to make their business in. They pay the local city hall for that space and in return they are the only ones entitled to make business there and have their own sunshade umbrellas (that are usually paid, or reserved for their guests). This means that a private citizen can only settle their sunshade umbrellas on the area where the sign is pointing to, and not on the other side, which is reserved to the said company. Some people don't respect it and open them on the company's area too but the company is entitled to ask them to close their sunshades. Probably they were not doing it on that day because the beach was fairly empty (good will). That restriction is only for sunshade umbrellas, if you don't have one you can stay wherever you want.
A small word of advice: it's a bit dangerous walking barefoot on those wooden walkways because it can happen that some screws or nails become a bit protuberant with the years and the wear, or some splinters appear. In some beaches there's even a warning sign at the entrance of these walkways to not go barefoot.
Praia concessionada não se pode instalar para-sóis, para-ventos, só os clientes da concessão
Thank you for another awesome video. 👍🏻 1) Was curious about spraying for flies. When I lived in Italy, they sprayed (late night) for mosquitos. I suppose flies can also be annoying. 😅 2) The erosion in a few months is quite impressive. 😲 I can see why the hotels are built quite some distance from the shoreline. 3) Are there public showers on Praia d’el Rey? I’d suffer without them. 🥵 4) Don’t you love how even the cheapest wines in PT can be delightful? 🍷 5) That bottle opener looks too complicated for me. 😂 Well done Lee! Cheers. 👋🏻
Nailed it once again !!!!yes,we shall put the vinho Branco on the list….
Obrigaddo
Chad….
Hello!
I saw you today in sub vila in Nazaré 😊
You were on your phone and I was too shy to talk to you 😅
Nice veggies, you see the love in them.
Awe, that brought some tears to my eyes… obrigada!! But, seriously, it was lovely. Nice to see it all in the summertime, as I was there in the winter! im so looking forward to getting back. Thank goodness Zeus is OK… they both look happy and healthy! Thank you so much for sharing and for the saudades. 😉
Hi Mandy and Lee, greet video as ever . This is Johnny from Johnny and lou non fame:) was great meeting you at the cafe:) please let us know if coming to Sao Martinho do Porto:)
it was a pleasure to meet you guys yesterday.. it was for me like meeting VIPs as I follow all your videos..
Great little video!! Loved the fruit/veggie stand!! Thanks for taking us along!! Debbie & Stijn
Hi Mandy and Lee, what a great video!!!! It's wonderful to see the difference in seasons in PDR. I am also glad you managed to figure out the wine opener… 😂 And Mishka and Zeus sure love their treats before we leave the house. :). I'll be heading to see Rosa shortly for my veggies. Thanks for letting me know about her, too.
Mandy, Lee, was nice meeting you at Praia D’el Rei. We just left for the US, but we will be back next year, if you are still in Portugal next year, come and see us you will be most welcome. Great to see this video about Praia D’el Rey and awesome to know the meaning of the sack of potatoes in the front of the house with the door open, we never been there but next year we will be regular customers! 😊🇵🇹
What a nice beach AND what a great surprise to find that produce store so close! How convenient! See, little hidden places like that are so important to know for future travelers there. 😊
yes, certainly a beautiful part of the coast. well done Lee for having a dip in the water, it looked lovely. obviously an area for the well off? but I guess the beach is free for everyone.
good spotting the fresh veggies.
Very nice video about Praia d' E Rey Hotel and resort. These beaches in portuguese west coast are beautiful, but the water is cold and some times, even in the summertime foggy and windy. Have a nice stay!
By the way, I love this wine from Setubal region. 🙂
Thanks for pointing out the veg market, that’s so handy to know. I was lucky enough to stay at the Marriott a few weeks back and it really is a beautiful hotel and the service second to none. It was so nice taking an early morning walk along the beach when no one else was about, it is such a lovely stretch of beach all the way down to Bom Sucesso.
You guys are near where we are in Gaeiras, Obidos. Very nice there. I got hit buy a golf ball when i walked across the golf course.
OMG, I had no idea that there is a market at the entrance to PDR. I'll have to check it out. Thank you so much. I loved seeing your video about our town. When Randy and I were here for our scouting trips we would stay in places at the Beachfront. They do have amazing views.
Hi team MandyLee, another lovely video from you guys.. What a fantastic and expensive place you stayed, them Huskies are gorgeous!
I still can't believe how cheap is your stay in Portugal (last video), you may not live like Kings, but that's not far off!
You both have a nice weekend 😎
Good morning
