  1. The issue faced by the build yards isn't profitability. Their far bigger challenge is managing cashflow.
Bear in mind that these builds take a long time, sometimes several years, and any profit is only realised right at the end when the vessel is delivered.
The initial build contract will typically stipulate a series of progress payments to be made at various points during the build.
These normally fall due at specified stages or breakpoints in the build process and very rarely occur at regular calendar intervals.
On the contrary, they'll often be many months apart, and in the interim the yard still has to cover its monthly fixed overheads in addition to any direct costs of the build.
That's easy enough for big yards with several builds going on simultaneously and with regular additional revenue coming in from much shorter term repair and/or refit contracts.
But small yards can easily find their cashflow under severe pressure which, if not managed carefully, can run away from them very, very quickly.
Over the years I've seen that lead to some extremely messy bankruptcies, with liquidators having to deal with multiple legal challenges from clients who' are up to date with progress payments and claim ownership of their part-built vessel as it stands, and the yards creditors who've yet to be paid for equipment or machinery that's already been supplied and installed in the vessel.

  2. The interesting portion of your channel is demonstrating how the Russian owners of these yachts are getting punished by various governments. You quickly turn my stomach when you elaborate and demonstrate the "amazing finishes and toys" aboard these yachts. Oh, what obscene amounts of money can buy! How insecure and hollow an individual must be to need to surround oneself with this level of repulsive sordid and sickening shit.

  3. Ritz-Carlton clearly don’t care about their carbon footprint. Why are they producing these diesel guzzling yachts? We should be making sailing yachts for leisure not diesel. Very poor attitude toward the environment.

  4. Your Patreon site sounds great but I am so sorry I can't subscribe, us, OAPs on very limited budgets are not even able to afford our heating bills, but YouTube is fine, that will have to do

  5. 'e', the noise at the beginning of your excellent vids, is that a Superyacht 'farting' from it's rear facing fog horn and if yes which superyacht is it because it sounds like the yacht has eaten too many beans ?

  6. Obviously, Germany has no issues needing attention and therefore can spend taxpayers' money repairing a murderer's unnecessary vehicle! Maybe they should release a few hardened criminals to give themselves something to worry about?!

  7. The subsidies story is 'incredible'…..especially when we're all being told to tighten our belts….well, i'll tighten my belt when we're all wearing the same size pants! Great channel, great info which has opened my eyes to this topic, thank you! 🙂

  8. German system, pay to play. seen it many times in the german building industry, piss the wrong people off and you go bankrupt because your bank will no longer finance your project and your costs overtake your cashflow. done deal. These large projects require bank financing.

  9. I noticed the stern on the Ritz vessel is lettered "Ritz Carlton Collection'. Of the 3 being built, I wonder if this one is considered the little bar of soap, shampoo, or the conditioner?
    Awesome video and information 🙂

  10. The history of the yacht building industry is littered with companies that have gone out of business. The saddest for me was Brooke Yachts – a British yard that turned out some amazing work and employed people with great skills. Unfortunately, it’s a risky and highly competitive sector with very slim margins, despite the huge overall project costs.

  11. While I was in the US Navy in 1986 my aircraft carrier made a Mediterranean Cruise. I was sitting on a sea wall looking at Adnan Khashoggi's grey mega yacht. Breathtaking sight! 11522

  12. Going bankrupt doesn't necessarily mean going out of business, In the US, filing for bankruptcy usually ends up getting rid of your debt and changing your name and continuing on debt free. It is a great way for a company to get rid of debt. Don't know if they can do that in Germany.

  13. Per Billy's comment below, I'm near 100% certain those pics are high-end renderings from the design team. I say so because in another life I used to do a fair amount of architectural design and rendering. But it's now getting so close to pure photorealism that you can hardly tell. But there are hints (like birds flying in CGI scenes in movies) that give it away.

  14. Hummm.. a charter style yaught company. Not a bad ideal . The action packed cruise ships are not for everone . ( slides and coasters) that style of cursing is More family entertainment industry. It's good to shake it up.

  15. I absolutely love your YouTube channel its one of the best covering super yachts, but now you’re starting a patreon page will you be saving all your best stuff for that at the expense of your YouTube fans .
During these difficult Financial Times I’m unable to donate any money to a patreon page . I do apologise for suggesting you would do this so please keep your YouTube channel as good and interesting as it’s always been .

  16. For those wondering why Russian oligarch's yachts are currently headed for the Gulf should perhaps consider the upcoming Football World Cup. Given that many of them (used to) own football clubs, as part of their spoils of corruption, it should be no surprise that they wish to entertain themselves on a 'world stage' and flaunt their ability to sidestep sanctions. We should be more outraged.

  17. I've offered this before, if you buy a ticket to go on one of those "yachts" you will need someone to carry your camera.
I would be willing to do that for you. 🙂

  18. The German government has grants to help its industry develop new processes and technologies.
This is nothing new other governments do the same. E.g. UK innovation funding.

This is normal and a good thing.
Why? Because the more advanced the industry becomes the more work it will have and the more funds coming into the country.
