  1. Wow! What a powerful video! Thank you so much for sharing. You still look strong, like bull, so don't know where you're losing muscle mass but I guess it happens to us all in time. Also, no shortage of wisdom on your part, to know what's coming and grasping life with both hands and living it fully. Don't normally comment on appearance but your beard is amazing — if you ever make it to Key West, you'll win in the Hemingway Contest, hands down. And since we're talking hair, how about Wolf!!! Reminds me of Fabio with that full head of hair! It's either genes or something is in the water. Signed, #Jealous!

  2. Ola Alan,
    Tudo Bem?
Another great informative video… Great scenery. Great memories.
Life is for the living so live it while you can kick…
You are retired now, live today and do not worry about tomorrow. Take care of your health and make adjustments to your lifestyle (if needed).
As the old saying goes "Life is too short. Play naked" (Huh?! Yeah! it makes sense. lol).
Aproveite a sua jornada da vida.
    Enjoy your life journey!
    Forca! Saude!
    Cheers

  3. Hi Alan – I really think your style of videos. Not only do you show us the most beautiful places on the island, the subject of your commentary is always thought-provoking, especially this one. Life is too short. Cheers.

  4. I have been waiting for this new video to ask you yet another question. In terms of the content of this video it is off topic. So, I will begin by saying that I agree with you, one does run out of energy as one ages. At a mere 73 years of age, I am considering giving up my house renovation work when I turn 74, rather than waiting until I turn 75, as I had originally planned. Up until now, construction work is how I have been getting my exercise, along with walks in the countryside. Now, I will go off topic. I would be concerned about the stresses and strains put on a 50+ year old VW Beetle. Context. As a young man I had a Beetle 1300 from 1966 to 1971. It was more than suitable in the city and the lowlands, but not especially appropriate on narrow, curvaceous, steep mountain roads found in much of British Columbia. In Norway, we also had a 1992 Golf III that we kept for 14 years. Again, it was suitable for the daily drive, but strained in the mountains. Since then we have always evaluated a vehicle in terms of its power, torque and braking ability. Madeira is even more mountainous than Norway. Do you have any reservations about using you VW on mountain roads?

  5. Wonderful video. Your thoughts on retirement really register with me. We are both 62 and have been retired a little more than three years now and yet I still find myself postponing some dreams due to money forgetting that the clock is running out. You guys seem so happy with your new life in Portugal and are an inspiration to me. We definitely need to check out Portugal as a possible retirement destination.

  6. I enjoy watching your video blogs about your retirement journey. I like your perspectives on retirement as I contemplate my own.

I have visited Portugal mainland a couple of times and visited a few of its cities and towns but I don’t think I could live on an island, too isolated and limited. Is there a way to communicate with you via email? I visited your channel but couldn’t find an email. Please advise. My email is on my channel.

  7. You guys will live forever don't worry. Enjoy this moment. Time is an illusion. Nothing dies. Trees become seeds again and vice versa. Leslie and you will be together and alive for eternity. This moment is all there is

  8. Hi Alan, have had the same thoughts the last year or two. When sharing your family and friends I’ve found many don’t understand! Hasn’t steered me from retiring later this year. Will be moving to Portugal early 2023. Working on getting rid of stuff and keeping stuff now. What a challenge filled with emotions. Super appreciate your videos. We will be living in mainland Portugal but visiting Madeira as well. See you one of these days ……JP

  9. Olá Allan
Thanks for another great video…I was born in Paul Do Mar and now live in Western Australia. I’ll be travelling back to Madeira in 3 weeks to visit with family and start some steps into looking at properties so that we can start our process of moving back to Madeira. Thanks again for great content.

  11. Love your channel. I will be in the Algarve Jan – March and am considering locating to Portugal since I work remotely. I considered Madeira since I previously lived on the island of Maui but thought it would be too cold in the winter. Will be interested to see how it is for you next winter. I was wondering how you are able to stay in Portugal past 90 days. Many thanks
