Reno Week 2 | Vision, Demolition, Door & Window Frame | My Central Portugal Farm #45

Week two of the renovations at the farm! I share my vision of the space and also legal intentions for the structure and requirements for renovations in Portugal. Although I am working in a grey area, I did get the go-ahead from the local municipality for the roof works. Always check with your local municipality before starting any build work.

The new door and window frame is cut into the wall, block and insulation work is done and we can start seeing the room take shape!

Enjoying the journey? Consider buying me a cup of coffee or a roof tile for the new roof 🙂

About Girl Meets Farm:
I’m Christine. I started this journey in search of my forever farm in Portugal, and now I have found it!

This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.

Now that we have found our farm, the second stage of our journey begins!
I have to figure out farm life while renovating an agricultural structure to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.

Thank you for joining our journey!

  1. How exciting Christine… your plans are really coming together. You have a great team there working for you… where did you find them, was it easy to employ these builders? Can't wait to see next week's progress… Can just picture you and your furbabies in your new courtyard with your morning coffee … stunning view 💛

  2. Your amazing architecture really.. Good luck Christine.. I love old thing maybe you can renovate some not strong structure and reinforced some walls and post.🙂🙂🙂🙂💪💪

  3. So your structure is Dependencia Agricola?
You have a structure with Urban Article on the land?

Are you sure you will be able to get habitation license without it being urban article?
Changing something from "Dependencia Agricola" to "Habitacao" in the Caderneta Predial is very hard.

*Edit – I talked to my engineer that works in the camara of Idanha-A-Nova regarding the urban article, he said that it is not Mandatory but he needs to see the house( even 1 picture) and the caderneta predial then he will know to answer me better.

  4. I enjoyed your interesting explanation of what the building process entails in Portugal!
The building team needs to be applauded for that enormous effort they put in….granite boulders and thick walls –
They are nevertheless moving at great pace.
The courtyard is definitely going to become a favourite spot to relax.
The project is taking shape amazingly fast.
We are excited with and for you, Christine!👍

  5. Wow! It's coming right along! It's exciting to watch the build develop. The bedroom and courtyard will be beautiful. So the courtyard will be private with no other entrance from the outside? This is going to be a beautiful home once it's all done up. I can't wait for more!🙂👍👍🐕🐕

  6. It seems you have found a very good crew! Looks like their work is top notch. Love seeing the progress. Will you do any ceiling fans in the new area? I've seen really nice can spots or even small spots that can pivot to aim lighting where you need it. Another option is up lighting. Aiming at the ceiling and relying on reflected light to illuminate areas. LED strip lighting that can change colors is a different and cool option for evening lighting. I'm sure what ever you pick will be wonderful. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. Be safe!

  7. Whoop…progress indeed & just love the view. Things are moving along at a pace, won't be long before this part of the renovation will be complete…..onward and upward. Good luck clearing up your growing rubble pile 🥰😯🥰

  8. You made great progress and it already looks so nice, I cannot wait to see the next step. Are you also going to talk about estimate cost of this project so other people can have rough idea if they wanted to do something similar?

  9. Great progress! That patio area is going to be so nice when you sit there with your morning coffee. So many lovely, large rocks to use for your patio wall, and elsewhere😊👍🏽
