Review of Portugal Airports – Porto, Lisbon, Faro – Portugal Travel

Several subscribers have asked for pros and cons of the airports on mainland Portugal. This video is based upon my experience.

  1. Joric… one more question… assuming CDC will still ask for Covid test to return to USA from Portugal… what should be my best and cost effective strategy for getting covid test done when my return flight is at 6:30 AM.

  2. Two questions… flying through London to Lisbon… is the passport control delays the same if coming from London? How is the experience to fly back and forth to Madrid from Lisbon?

  3. Hi again…Get to Lisbon airport early because you never know and they say 3 hours which is ridiculous for an EU flight, but TAP will use it against you! Watch the gate information…It was changed on me once and the airport is big so you might have had your boarding pass scanned, but still arrive at the gate late if you don't allow enough time! This all in terminal 1…I have had no problem with terminal 2 and find it easier and faster believe it or not! For EU flights I prefer to deal with EasyJet and even Ryan Air…Never thought I'd say that!!! Oh, metro to airport is great and NEVER take the night bus….That was scary!!!

  4. Thanks for the video, do i still have to do the 2-4 hour customs deal with a US passport if I'm flying within the EU? Also, do you have any videos explaining how to convert a CDC vaccination card into the EU digital vaccine passport like at a pharmacy? That would be helpful.

  5. I will first mention that the country Norway I am living in, is of course outside of EU, but inside of the Schengen area, according to passports, etc. Maybe you have something worth telling about that. Also Iceland and Liechtenstein is so. I guess Switzerland maybe also. But now in March, I took my flight from Bergen, and went through Oslo. Passport-control went easy in Bergen for just checking it out in a scanner. Check-in of luggage I did a day online before departing from Bergen. But I had to go through a control of Corona Certificate at the gate in Oslo before getting aboard the aircraft from there. And at the gate, face-masks was required. Once in Lisbon, it was just to go to get my luggage. The way back to Norway, I was of course met with the sandstorm form Sahara the night before and in the morning. I was thankful I had to were a mask then. I wondered why my flight to Oslo didn't show up on the tablet at Lisbon airport, but was later told to be visible an hour, or half an hour before flight. Unnecessary and was stressful. And a shuttle-bus to the aircraft I had to take yes. But at Oslo airport all passengers from the same aircraft was met with 3-4 police officers and a dog for passport control. I wonder if this was because of stricter control of travellers coming into Norway, because of the war in Ukraine. Or it might have been some suspects from the aircraft they were waiting on. This was 17. of March. But all in all no issues with checking in my luggage back from Lisbon, because I did checked in online before departure. But an upgrade or a new airport is necessary and welcoming in Lisbon. Apropos face-masks. Now after I arrived at Norway, I tested myself 3 days afterwards for COVID-19. I guess I maybe got it aboard the flight when we could eat. Totally unnecessary to use. I had my third corona vaccine in January, and taking 1600 IU vitamin D daily for over a year now. It went just fine, despite having Diabetes type 1. And eating at the restaurant without a mask wasn't looked well at, at the hotel I stayed at in. Totally unnecessary to use now, unless in hospitals and nursing homes. Here in Norway it has been mask free since 12. of February.

  6. We had exited from Lisbon at the end our trip this april and being from a non EU nation it was quite a smooth transit right from security check to passport control.
Overall it was quite a pleasant experience.

  7. Concerning Porto Airport luggage claims you have to be aware that most of them are caused by the routes through Lisbon, since like Faro Airport, most of Porto Airport flight passengers are using carry-on. Remember TAP has between 9 to 12 daily flights Lisbon-Porto…

  8. This video is perfect Joric as we’re considering flying into Faro and flying out of Porto to avoid Lisbon’s airport—based on the 2+ hour delay we experienced at Lisbon passport control in late October 2021. My comments/questions: (1) LISBON ARRIVAL For connecting flights in Lisbon, airport staff were paging departing passengers at the passport control queue. Those with connections jumped to the head of the queue and missed connections appeared to not be an issue. (2) LISBON DEPARTURE Check-in was chaotic and confusing—with check-in kiosks for boarding passes and checking your bags separately. Possibly the space issue you mentioned with many flights leaving at the same time (?) (3) LISBON DEPARTURE While our flight gate to San Francisco used a jetway, queuing outside the gate area and in the corridor was again chaotic. There were several check points (passport, covid, US security). Not sure if this was the norm or a combo US and Covid entry requirements!!! Shear madness. (Volume 3: Magnet of Madness? 🤔) (4) LISBON-GENERAL Is the plan to have a second airport or a replacement? I haven’t been able to find much info on this. (5) PORTO Didn’t mention access by metro also possible. (6) You’re the best. Appreciate your work and research for this video. 👍🏻
