  1. Very nice video! Thanks!
Very impressed about that the video is straight out of camera.
Were the GR3(x) pictures also jpegs straight out of camera or edited?
What about the autofocus? Is it so slow as the most people say?
I really think of this camera to shoot my kids, indoors and outdoors, my A6400 is too much to carry with kids…
I would really appreciate your answer. Thank you!

  2. Hi Matti! Do you use a screen protector on your gr III x. If so which brand and where did you buy it? Just ordered mine and wonder if it would be of any use. How about touch sensititivity on screen? Thanks!

  3. Hi Matti, what's your favorite focal length for taking pictures in Helsinki? Just booked a trip there & need to figure out what to bring! I only like to bring one camera/lens.

  4. So impressed, what a great photographer can do with these cameras. I already love the 40 mmish area. My old Yashica range finder with a 45mm has always been my favorite walk around camera when I shoot film. I think the 40mm Ricoh might be my next birthday gift to myself.

  5. I appreciated the video. I'm going back and forth on whether to rely on my GRIII only for a trip to Scotland. I start adding too many lenses when I contemplate also carrying the Fujifilm XPro3. The freedom from weight and worry about camera equipment certainly would make the GRIII a strong choice.

  6. I still use my 8.1 megapixel Ricoh gr digital camera from 2006. Ahead of the game. I prefer the 28mm equivalent lens. I shoot mostly in black and white. I carry it everyday with a spare battery.

  7. I have trouble using a prime lens or fixed focal lenght cameras when on vacation/excursion. In my opinion, these are very good for the type of street photography, where you wait for someone to enter the previously framed shot or you have more time to look at the subjects from different angles and pick the right one. I typically do not have that time/opportunity when traveling. So I really prefer zoom lenses. From my experience, 5x zoom range is the minimum I need. But everyone is different ofc.

  8. As far as camera cases go, I like using Ricoh's own GRiii case that attaches to a belt. It is expensive for what it is, but it is compact and low in profile like the camera.

  9. I've been using the GR3 as an everyday camera for a couple of years and it's been mostly great. To keep the pocket dust away from the lens I've used a stick-on uv filter for the last 18 months or so coupled with a metal GR lens cap that I just take off as it comes out my pocket.

  10. My G9 with 12-60 and 50-200 both leica lenses is all I need for travel in a small sling bag. Great viewfinder, image quality and I can use a polarizer on both lenses. A camera without a viewfinder defeats the purpose of not being seen when you have two arms extended in front of you while taking pictures.

  11. Thanks for the video. I used my PEN F with the 17mm for street and travel and now changed to the Fuji X100V. I need a viewfinder and a flip screen has some advantages from time to time and it is weather sealed.

  12. Hi Matti, many thanks for your video, great to see a photographer extolling the virtues of small cameras. I never quite got the attraction of carrying large cameras with lots of lenses when travelling ….my first travel camera was an Olympus trip when a teenager, which did it all. Today I use a Fuji XA7 with the 27mm pancake, which oddly mimics the old Trip in both physical size and focal length. It also looks like a toy camera, and it’s not so expensive as to worry about it too much

  13. So gracious of you to make these videos while on holiday! Very helpful real-world insight about the cameras. The photos show your great talent as they travel photographer, too. Thanks.

  14. I also found that the battery life is decent when I turn on, take a picture and then turn off. I believe the reason for draining the battery is that the IBIS never goes to sleep when the camera is on. And thanks for a great video (as usual).

  15. What a lovely break from the depressing news cycle! And a wonderful plug for Lisbon. I like your philosophy of “less is more,” at least for travel. I have not mastered the art of “street photography,“ but I keep learning from your sample photos.

  16. Usually I take one wide angle zoom and one general purpose zoom with me for travel but next time I might take two or three primes instead. 35mm, 50mm and one wide 16mm or 24mm prime (full frame equivalent) Decisions, decisions…

  17. Little holsters that hang from your belt might be good. I used to think they would be awful but I tried them and I like them a lot. Easy to snatch the camera out and also avoids the pocket cruft problem.

  18. Very nice and interesting pictures you have been taking with The Ricoh, I am a big fan of Ricoh GRll, I have “only” The old model but I like to use that for photography and my g9 for video and I don’t need full frame for my use. Your wife is good at making video, have a nice travel in Portugal. Thank for sharing your experience and for giving us some beautiful shots in this crazy world.

  19. Matti finds the warmth and sunshine. Great to travel! I would keep to the in-pocket carry, or some little belt pack. When I hit the street I have the camera almost always switched on, and in hand. I am liking the Lumix GX-9 with the telephoto 12-60mm which came in the deal. I can use a prime if light conditions are too low. Yes indeed the GRIIIx is one I would consider though the lack of view finder must be taken into consideration. Have fun, Loren
