Self-Building our Dream Bathroom (Shower) & first harvest on our Portuguese Homestead – Part 2 πŸ›€πŸ”¨πŸ§”πŸ§‘πŸ‘©

Daniel and I have long thought about what our Dream Bathroom would look like before we thought about self-building it. To us, a Dream bathroom must have 2 showers, fantastic tiles that give a spa feeling, and a stunning glass wall just as you see in TV shows like The Block Australia.

This week, we are grouting and installing our double showers and the wonderful glass. We are also harvesting the first bounty from our land.

This Self-Building our Dream Bathroom (Shower) video is part 2 of a series where we’ll take you through the process we’ve used to create our Dream Bathroom. Since we are currently showering outside, getting our dream indoor shower ready is a top priority. We’re now in mid-September, and washing out self in our outdoor shower is getting frisky.

33 weeks ago, we bought an abandoned farm in Tras-os-montes, North Portugal, and we’re building our dream house with a public garden, an ice cream kiosk, and our dream house, optimized toward minimalist yet comfortable living.

We left the Rat trace for a simple life in North Portugal. And this is a slice of our dream and a new simple life. Follow us on Facebook:

  1. There is a youtube channel called Project Portugal that has an episode showing how he hangs plasterboard by himself on the ceiling. It's episode 64 (May 27, 2022 ). I think he built the devices out of metal but you could easily use wood. He has a lot of useful tips and has done a great job like you guys have. You've put a lot of hard work on your house and it looks fabulous.

  2. Beautifully done! It was a tremendous hard job, but a hard job that will be so appreciated, when you take that first shower!! Love your channel!! Take care and see you on the next one! ❀❀❀

  3. HELLO SINDY & DAN…GLAD TO SEE SO MUCH DONE, INCREDIBLE WORK! VERY HAPPY FOR YOU…YOU MUST FEEL SO MUCH MORE SETTLED…MY LOVE TO MASON & GRUFFIN…ALL THE BEST…πŸ™πŸ»;)

  4. replant the sweet potato plant if you get it up with good roots.. it might survive the winter, and then you'll have sweet potatoes from early spring too πŸ˜‰
I live up north in the Lofoten islands, and any potatoes forgotten, will sprout the next year in my garden πŸ™‚ haven't tried sweet potatoes yet, but know they overwinter elsewhere😊

  5. Hello Sindy and Dan, OMG it is amazing, the grouting brings the tiles alive and the black shower fittings are just perfect with the tiles. BE PROUD !! Oh the luxury for you both to now be able to stand under a lovely hot shower, certainly well deserved. Great Sindy making good use of the produce in your garden. That sauce/chutney look very nice. As time goes on you will have more time to organise your garden. You are both doing great and using your time well, don't stress, it will all come together. Your sweet potato (in NZ they are called Kumera) There are many types. Did you know you can make Kumera chips (you may call them fries) they are very nice. They are lovely roasted also. Hope the weather allows you to do your roadworks this. Mason you are a star and darling Gruff you are so shy. See you all on Sunday.

  6. I respect your honesty in admitting to mistakes. Can I make one request- does the music have to be so loud? I want to hear the both of you rather than the instrumental musicπŸ₯°

  7. Sindy, I am a 1st generation Quebecoise. I grew up in Chambly on the Eastern Townships Autoroute. Anyway, the shower looks fabulous. At least you can have nice warm showers. The chutney looks seriously delish. Great vid!πŸ™‚πŸ•πŸ•πŸ‘

  8. Shower looks so professional and beautiful! Well done, again! The chutney looks so good and I'm sure smells wonderful. Nice to have a change of seasons so its cooler for you to work.🌻

  9. Walnuts are amazing added to salads, great crushed in sponge cakes plus superb over cereal and icecream. Just eaten as they arise delicious, the shells are for compost. All looks amazing, be grateful for the rain as many have received little from normal. You'll find all comes out for the best in the end. πŸŒ°πŸŒ½πŸŒΆπŸ‡πŸπŸ§€πŸžπŸŒΊπŸ΅πŸŒΊπŸŒΌ

  10. What happened to Mason's turnip stick? Your ideas just flows out of you. Dan's work impeccable! Funny thinking about the road coming before the kitchen but you have to do what is needed first. You have what you need for the kitchen it will take time to get things in order. But great job guys. Those look like english walnuts. I have black walnut trees and they have the thick green cover that turns to black when ready to shed their cover, that is where the walnut stain comes from, also much harder to crack open.

  11. The bathroom is gorgeous….yay, an invigorating hot shower is here. Fab !
    Food is everywhere….you're blessed. .
An outdoor screen in kitchen building next year?πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘

  12. Yayyyy, well done Dan and Sindy, you have a luxury shower and how beautiful!! πŸšΏπŸ™πŸ˜Š. Dan really is a star 🌟🌟🌟. Great harvest with your veggies and walnuts. Walnuts are so very expensive now and we are also very lucky to have inherited a mature tree and have planted up several saplings which are growing well 🌿🌳🌿. Great chutney Sindy xxx πŸ…πŸŒΆοΈπŸŒ°

  13. There’s a lot of love πŸ’• I dare say blood, sweat and tears also in this house build, looking gorgeous guys, really admire your vision and determination πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

  14. Amazing you have done such a beautiful job on the tiling and the shower perfect you deserve it much respect to you both I am proud for you. Watching from Queensland Australia β€β€πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‘πŸ‘

  15. Bathroom looks amazing, and not least it's adding to your comfort greatly I imagine. The sweet potatoes are a real treat, I liked the idea of hiding some homesteading elements into the building vid!
