Slap a roof on a RUIN in PORTUGAL!

We have been off the radar recently but wanted to share with our wonderful viewers what we have been up to since the tragic loss of Zac.
We have been in planning for the new roof for some time and have finally started work and its all systems go!
Thank you for all your kind words of support for Ginny and rest assured she is doing ok.
We have had visitors this week and are starting work on the roof of the ruin, exciting times.
Thanks for watching and follow us on the other socials for more content and news.

  1. Hi, now the hard work starts again…..
I know you want to make your concrete floor, but , before you start it, make your plan and drawing were you want the electric , waste pipes and water supply to go.
You will possible need them all under the finished floor.
Nothing looks worse that having them exposed.
Glad to see your roof is being done ,a good hat is best.
If you can get a digger to remove all the built up earth , then build a retaining wall to hold back the earth,it will stop the water ingress.
It would give an area for a path to the side garden , or perhaps for your guests to be able to park a car.
    Best of happy working.

  2. So wonderful of you to be helping abandoned animals. Those horrible people who abandon them should be put in the stocks and shamed for their cruelty. Then fined heavily. I hope that by helping the dogs it also helps you after the shock of Zac's death. Best wishes to you both and to Ginny

  3. So good to see you both again, those pups melted my heart.
You're such very good people, i totally agree with your sentiment about people abandoning dogs, such a callous heartless act.

    Dave knows his stuff!
Going to be great to see the progression.

Amazing how much better the space looks just by being emptied out, love the time lapse, I love work, I could watch it all day 😉.

It's going to be an awesome space and im looking forward to joining you guys on the journey.

I hope Ginny is doing okay, you are all in my thoughts ❤️

Keep us posted on the roof and the puppers!

    Obrigado

  4. Good to see you back, understand totally after your loss. Just wondering do you still have all your cats, now the dogs are around? They will all learn to get along together, once they now their all in the same family. Exciting to see barn starting. Did you get your drainage issue in the main house basement sorted out? Best wishes from Australia

  5. HELLO NICK & SARAH, I AM GLAD YOU ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE CHANNEL…VERY PLEASED…SO SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE…ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE FOR GINNY & LITTLE TEDDY…AND YES, THE TWO DOGS WERE SENT TO YOU BECUZ YOU NEED THEM, PERHAPS AS MUCH AS THEY NEED YOU…THERE'S NEVER A GOOD EXCUSE FOR ABANDONING A PET…IT'S AN IMMATURE & CALLOUS THING TO DO…MUCH LOVE TO SCRUFFY & SANDY…BLESSINGS 🙏🏻;)

  6. Happy to see you & Sarah again, and excited to watch the progress on your ruin. I can understand Sarah in not wanting another door in that wall as you lose wall space & that’s important to us women in making more space to put stuff, my opinion, lol. The dogs were so precious and so glad y’all are feeding & loving them. I detest people who do not take care of their animals, but there are mean spirited people in this world that’s for sure. I know you all have been through a rough time, so not going to go into that. All in my thoughts & prayers. I lost my 48 year old daughter 7 years ago November to pancreatic cancer, not telling you this to make you sad nor to feel sorry for me, but family helps and my faith in God gives me strength to continue on & there is so much joy to be found in the littles things, such as my grandchildren’s smiles, a beautiful sunset, etc. and God blessed me with a whacky sense of humor, which certainly helps me to enjoy life. Hope I did not get too personal but felt like I just wanted to share. Now you tell Sarah she wins on that doorway. Lol

  7. Good return episode Nick.
As someone else mentioned, those dogs were sent to you for a reason. You and Sarah will care for them, we know.
It was good to see Dave again too. When we returned to Canada I was told that Aromaticas had closed. Happy to see that Dave is doing well.

Wear a mask for God's sake when you're digging through all that junk, cleaning up!!

Yes, put in that other door. Sarah will appreciate it when it's in.
    Look forward to your updates.
    Cheers!

  8. Thankyou for mentioning Ginny of course we are all thinking of her at this sad time simply cannot get over Zack passing…I feel the same about the dogs being abandoned its so sad poor things x

  9. Family time out is totally expected, no need for any apologies guys
Good to see you back .. caring for ourselves and family, those two dogs and the ruin.
Proper job on clearing out and your plans and YES .. knock that doorway out.
Like I suggested before, dig the bank back, a retaining wall with a nice patio area along the full length of the rear wall .. possibly with water holding tanks underneath the patio to catch the run off water from the gutters 🤔

  10. Lovely job you are doing with the dogs. I thought Paula would like 2 more dogs, said they are very cute, she said good you keep them then. Great to see progress on your ruin, make a gorgeous Airbnb one day, views will sell it easily. Hope you are not getting flooded on your mountain.

  11. My heart breaks to see the two pups, but knowing that they are beginning to trust you and can have a safe resting place when they need it is amazing.
Are you permanently in Portugal now?
Yes to the mask and yes to re opening the doorway!
Warm wishes to you and the family, Laura 🍻

  12. The more doors the easiest way to get out in case of fire, and if it is a glass door you have a view to the backyard and all your adopted pets. I love stone buildings…I love Scruffy and Sandy, both the names and their gentle personalities.

  13. Hi Nick, so sorry about all the sadness in your family, our thoughts are with you all. I have been talking about coming to Portugal for a long time and the time is now! House sold coming next week so I have messaged Paula, lets see 👌 Sometime I must catch up with you to understand more about the rebuilding challenge there. Anyway thanks for another lovely video and seeing your two new friends 😊

  14. Yes, good to choose the Nordic pine, it's loaded with resin. Pre-treat with lye on the sanded beams if you want to avoid it from turning yellow (the Swedish word is lut, and lye was what I got when using Google translate). We have clear lye or with a dash of white, often sold in 5 liter jugs.
Great to see you again on the channel. Scruffy and Sandy💕like having teenagers in the house; eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom….and then they are off again😂
    Greetings from Sweden💛💙, Katarina

  15. Welcome back Nick & Sara, Zack will be sorely missed by all who knew him, I understand why Ginny has shut her social media and I as all who know her wish her well and as they say time is a great healer and I hope it does for all.

It is nice to see you tackling the ruin and starting with a new roof, personally I think you should reopen the doorway and put a walkway round to the side doorway with small patio areas to the back and side with seating for taking a cuppa outside in either sun or shade. Great place to site a couple of Velux windows in the roof as your getting the roof done. I would also site the kitchen on the other side of the barn so it finishes around the window and open the doors so you walk into the kitchen with an small island with seating towards the window and half depth cupboards the kitchen side.

  16. Well hello to you both. Many hugs and prayers for you guys and Ginny. Going forward you will be doing an amazing project. I so love this house and what great views. Thanks for showing the progress and the how to do it. Those two dogs are a real treat especially at this time of your lives. Hope it works out for all of you. We had to put our 16 year old lab down and now we have 4 stray cats! Well, take care of each other and enjoy your day!

  17. First, congratulations Sarah on your new adventure. I don't do a lot of commenting on FB and it didn't seem right to congratulate you on the last video with Paula.

The ruin is going to be absolutely amazing once you and Dave get the new roof on. I can't believe the transformation you made just cleaning out this level.

Much love from this side of the pond. ❤❤💛💛💙💙

  18. I was chocked to hear About Zack, first time i hear about it. Have you talked about It in early videos? What Happens? Sorry for asking, loved their videos he was such a positive person. My heart go out to jenny, sorry for your loss

  19. So happy to see you have decided to change out all of the old rafters and purlin's. Better safe than sorry! She's gonna be a real peach by the time you have finished. You and Sarah really warm my heart by the way you treat the animals that find you on their travels. I know if I was lost or wandering without a home, I would want to cross your path! Kudos to you and Sarah for having such big hearts. Can't wait to see the follow up videos on the restoration of the ruin. Cheers!🍺

  20. Delighted to see a new post from you Nick and Sarah. I have no doubt you are still grieving alongside Ginny and supporting her alongside the rest of her family. Again my sympathy to you both as you deal with Zac’s loss too. Maybe the dogs are there to give you some comfort too – albeit intermittently. Totally agree with your comments re abandoned pets.

Can wait to see progress on the old building. It must be exciting ( and costly ) to at last be getting going with some dramatic improvements. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan. 👍🤞
