There are a lot of variables that go into moving to another country. I think she had a $1200 income plus her SS. Facts are important! Health is a big issue. Do they accept your medicare and your supplementary, RX, and Dental Insurance? How high tech is their medical field and hospitals? So she mentioned her rent is $420.00 but she needed quite a bit to get set up, right around $2300.00. And if you heard her say she was able to stay with a friend there for FREE until she found a place. Who has that kind of money set aside when you are dirt poor and make just enough to live, if that's what you call it.

I keep going back and forth but for now, I plan on retiring at 59.5. Hopefully the markets will gain back some of what was lost by then. Luckily my home is paid off. Small pension, interest income from retirement savings, ill be living tight until 62. But I'd still like to live in another country for 6 months out of the year. Once I turn 62, with social security, id be considered middle class. But there's no doubt in my mind, if all i had was social security to live on, I'd check out of the US and live in Thailand or Philippines. I don't know if its ok to recommend another channel but , The Campbell Channel is an retired American living in the Philippines, half his body is paralyzed and seems to be happy. He explains how he lives and deals with life in his condition. Again, apologies to David if i was inappropriate naming another channel.

I live in Tijuana with 3,900 dollars social security income. I put away 2,000 dollars a month and my rent is 120 dollars, 25 utilities. Since I live downtown, no need for cars. Across by my apartment are restaurants, markets and grocery stores. I eat good, and fun almost nightly. No need for wife, hookers lined up 24/7 @nd they are great looking women.
