i agree about puerto banus, it is just a ridiculously expensive tourist trap for rich ex pats. I avoid the place like the plague but it is my local cinema (i live in estepona). I like la linea, its a bit rogth round the edges but a hotel or a hostel there will save you a LOT of money rather than staying in gibraltar.

Used to go there frequently when i was a boy. Stayed in Benalmadena and drove approx 2 hrs along the cost.
It sometimes took longer to get through customs on the way out than it did to get back to Benalmadena.

Visited Gibraltar a few times, Great little place and very interesting too.
