  1. Hola Stuart muchas gracias por el video I think if some business's are ripping people off they won't see them again. When I had my shoe repair shop I kept my prices the same for over 20 years and was rarely short of trade. Tenga un buen fin de semana

  2. It’s all about labour costs, deal with it, the people who work in the service industry need a decent salary. In Spain tipping is a no no, because they have a budget to work to, welcome to the LIE the world’s politicians have spun on the behalf of the banks

  3. Great Menú del día in Campo de Guardamar, Alicante, bread with aioli, salad, starter, main course, dessert and even coffee as well as 1/2 bottle of wine pp or a beer, soft drink or water. Always full and especially Fridays with workers. All this for €10,95

  4. Spain clearly discriminatory implementation of entry restrictions to UK nationals, will only hurt the people of Spain who work in the hospitality industry. I took my vacation money elsewhere this summer.

  5. Jeez, I'm starting to understand why the Aussies refer to "whingeing poms". Prices in tourist areas have ALWAYS gone up in the summer, it's the only way that most restaurants and supermarkets are able to stay open. The same is just as true in tourist areas of the UK.
I'm glad I don't work as a taxi driver where you are, I'd always be checking my wheel bearings because of the whining coming from the back

  6. Make sure you’ve got your bank statements and bank card when you arrive in Spain. They’re randomly asking to see that you have proof of £85 per day for each day of your visit. Soon to be rolled out to all arriving passengers. Proof of finances, proof of return ticket, proof of accommodation, proof of Covid vaccination… Is it worth it? Best going somewhere else like Turkey etc at least they don’t ask to see your financial details on arrival!

  7. If the archetypal Spanish Menú del Día becomes unaffordable locals and tourists will vote with their feet and flock to the ever popular, affordable Chinese restaurants to be found in every major town. Many of them offer an all-you-can eat fixed price menu and there's always a huge choice, with fresh fruit, juices, tea and coffee.

  8. Restaurant owners need to understand their service is a nice to have and not a necessity. When the tourists are gone let’s hope they kept enough money back to function throughout the winter because the locals will not pay those prices.

  9. Stuart – I retired in 2008 and since then I goto Spain every winter. In Benidorm I joined a walking club and about 7 years ago I was with the walkers in Albir and I was drinking a red wine and it was surperb and eating a complimentary tapas. It was in feburary, about 22' celcius – a beautiful day and the cost was E1.5 euro. About 3 month later I flew to Perth in WA to pay for my daughters wedding. I was in a shoe shop and I mentioned the above experience to an assistant who informed me that in Perth I would have to pay 18 Aussie Dollars (Dull-as).

  10. Surprised you didn’t mention Spain’s vaccine policy, most people here in the UK don’t want more jabs but Spain won’t let you enter if you haven’t had a jab in the last 270 days.

  11. Gee I wonder how the people whining about prices in Spain would deal with the inflation in Turkey, with an inflation rate of close to 80%. The inflation we're currently seeing is only the beginning, we're now paying back for 2 years of pandemic economic disruption compounded by the invasion of Ukraine & the associated energy, food & fertilizer shortages. The worse is yet to come, mark my words.

  12. Hola Stu, We were able to find many restaurants in A Coruna offering a menu del dia, with prices ranging from 9-14 euros. The quality of food and the portion size are more important than the price alone. When I was in the restaurant business back in the States, we tried to keep our "food cost" to 30% of the price. If we sold a dish for 10$, the ingredients costs was around 3$. I would imagine that it's the same formula for the restaurants here in Spain. The challenge with the menu del dia is to find good quality food at a decent price. Bang for your buck!

  13. Latest financial news from the UK…
Britain is suffering the worst inflation crisis of any G7 country after prices surged at their fastest rate in 40 years.

Consumer prices rose 10.1pc in the year to July, the biggest leap since 1982 and a higher rate than in America or the major eurozone countries….. Tony cuenca

  14. We used to visit Spain ever year on camping trips in the late 60's. The typical Menu del Dia cost 100 pesetas in those days. The dessert was invariably "Naranja o Flan".
I was in Ponferrada this year at a big shopping centre and thought I'd like a hamburger for a change. Macdonalds was closed at lunchtime!

  15. Part of the tradition…so it was designed for tourists on holiday & the locals embraced a lovely 3 course meal & a bottle of wine at lunchtime then a nice sleep whilst the rest of Europe is lucky to get a sandwich at their desk. I guess being one of the least productive countries in the world beholden to the Eu & tourists doesn’t bother drunk people.

  16. Let us really know what is going on in Spain because the UK is in real trouble with rising prices for every thing Including energy fuel tax and food all rising incredibly high

  17. I think the menu de dia will stay and prices will settle down again maybe not as cheap as in the past those days are gone ,l would like to see tapas bars more inland Alicante tapas is very boring every place is the same l prefer tapas when it's this hot a menu del dia can be very heavy ,,,good video Stuart have a good time in Portugal .

  18. Cost People Summer Few Way To Spend Fair Most Pointed are The up Ago Some Talking and Plate you Now So i Opinion Most Also and Qeen There Músic Person gale Not They Spain Aroud are The like Whet Spain at ?? There effect Vídeo Como That Weknow expensive Spain

  19. Hi Stuart,
I can't see the menu del dia ever comming to an end, I think its part of Spanish tradition, the same as having a Siesta in the afternoon,
the only places I see it dying out is areas like Benidorm, that attract more of the Mc Donald's and KFC, followers,
a pastime that I don't understand is why fireworks are set off during the day, frightening all of the dogs in the vicinity, happens often in our area especially red days,
    Brian, La Marina Alicante

  20. Menu del día = the clever ideeea; hello from the Czech Republic; prices are rising almost everywhere, for example in Prague, we call it the "menu of the day", which is actually only available at lunchtime, and usually only includes soup and main course and costs about 7 – 9 euros, depending on your choice of main course, but mostly no drinks and nothing else; in smaller towns there is also a drink , dessert or both for this price. It's true that in Prague you can easily have an excellent large beer for 2.50 euros (if you're not driving, of course)!
