Building a Geodesic Dome and living in it full time, there are a LOT of things we wish we built differently. Today, we’re starting over and rebuilding the Geodesic Dome the way that we should have from the very beginning.

The vlog continues on Instagram:
When we first set out on building our cabin, we had planned on doing a traditional a-frame style cottage but as time went on and we did our homework we realized that if we carefully planned things we could build a cabin that won’t just last our lifetime but generations to come. The more we learned about what it truly means to live off grid and be self-sufficient, we quickly realized the importance of building a homestead…for those of you who don’t know (because we definitely didn’t), a homestead is a property with several outbuildings that all provide a separate purpose for the goal self sufficiency! We knew from the beginning that we wanted the independence that having a homestead gave us but weren’t interested in roughing it off the grid like a typical log cabin you’re used to seeing! So we dreamt up a modern twist on cabin life that will fit our needs and after all these days dreaming, it’s FINALLY happening and we can’t wait to bring you along for the ride!
Join us every Sunday as we continue to create off the grid homestead vlogs, sharing our adventures as we build our own alternative lifestyle, living simply in the wild wonderful off grid forest!
How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid tiny house that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We’ve spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we’ll need in the future.

The decision to start the Geodesic Dome project over was honestly not as easy as you'd think. For the last few months we'd really been going back and forth whether all of this work would be worth it but the heat wave was the final straw and the kick in the butt we needed to get to work on making our home more comfortable. In true Tyler and Todd fashion, it couldn't have just been a straight forward project and of course we've created a few more problems for ourselves along the way lol. We're crossing our fingers that the new insulation will arrive this week and we can solve this issue once and for all…P.S we've been busy on redoing the entire interior of the dome from the kitchen to the electrical and cannot wait to show you what we've come up with next Sunday!
Of course your names would be Tyler and Todd
i didn't get enough of T&T 2day, so I'm rewatching this one again fam! <3 T&T so driven to be creative, to design, to have a happy home, to build so many projects! You have taught us so much! Much love! <3 Thank you for sharing your lives with us, remaining positive, past the tears as you learn, grow and sustain life off grid! <3 The gardens, the meals. I'm really looking to the canning videos! Your videos carry me thru….
You can slice that one huge log into a diving board for your swimming pool. I have watched professional tree trimmers and they are all amazingly methodical and well trained. They can saw down a huge tree without harming anything. Amazing. What did that one guy look like under the hat. Looked hot. You could have invited him over when you get the pool finished!? Happy to see you guys!
love yall!!
You guys never ceased to entertain!!!…your predicaments and the way you deal with your ordeals are really funny. Your love for life is contagious. Best of luck!. ❤
Living now in Texas, I miss a couple of perennials you guys could plant that will give you outstanding scents in the spring: peonies and lilacs. I don't remember if there's a "correct" time to plant them, though my sense is that you can stick lilacs in the ground any old time. And of course, after the plants get rooted, there's no more maintenance required.
What size dome is that
I was diddy bpping through some of your old videos and you guys were way more touchy feely a couple of years ago…What happened?
You mat want to look into how earthships deal with heating and cooling. They also use 0 power for heating and cooling.
Guys……. aren't you afraid of forest fires?.
You guys continue to amaze me. You are the hardest working guys I’ve ever seen. You set yourselves a task and you just keep at it until it’s done. And you work so well together (most of the time 😉). Watching what you have accomplished since your first RV reno to the incredible compound you have created makes me very happy! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode!
I feel like you guys are a little hard on yourselves for not putting up the insulation initially. You were on a tight schedule to get the dome up before the snow and cold really set in. Cut yourselves some slack.
I knew the dome wasn't fit for four season use in that climate. It was always going to be hard to heat, drip condensation on you, and cook you in summer.
This must be what the inside of a Jiffy Pop looks like! 🍿
We're a young gay couple out in New-Brunswick. We watched your show, got inspired, and bought 62 acres and a 39' geodesic dome. We are in the process of selling our big home and start a new life of simplicity and self-sustainability. We are learning lots from these videos, keep up the good work. These are all things that help save our beautiful planet.
I’m a huge bird fan and I’m soooooo envious that you have hummingbirds. I’ve never seen one in real life ☹️
I love your dome and it’s not until watching this vid, that I have to ask the question, why do they make them so high when the space isn’t used ! Am I just stupid as I’d make it lower and larger floor space !
Just found you guys!!! Amazing everything! Looking forward to learning as you all do!
I don’t want to say that “I told you so” but I told you so 🙂 Now, after you’ve got an idea of how much effort it takes to redo something instead of doing it correctly straight away, I’m looking forward to the series of videos where you’re digging out your cables and relaying them properly (and, potentially, recalculating the sizes/changing your circuit-breakers because I do not know how you did your calcs) ))) 🍿
What baffles me a bit is that you keep saying that you listen to what people are writing to you in comments/advice they give. But do you accept it as valid advice based on volume (if many people say the same thing, it might be true)? The thing is that more people have experience with planting garlic or insulating their homes than laying power cables. The fact that you’ve got a sign off from a utility only means that you did certain things according to regulations (e.g. dug the trench of a certain depth, put a conduit in, put a switchboard in, fuses etc). It doesn’t mean that something won’t blow up when you switch it on or that it will last you years (good chance it won’t based on what I saw). But that’s my last comment on the matter, I promise (because it feels a bit like banging my head into the wall and I have better things to do in my life if people don’t want to listen to what a specialist in the area has to say).
Just catching up on the video and wow what a big job but you did it!!!!! Well done!!!! Hermione would be proud 😂
I LOVE the 'pillow' effect of the new interior liner.
The black on your hands is not from the aluminum. It’s soot from the wood heater.
Where are Tyler’s glasses from?
👋🏻 Hi, fellas! 😁 Big lesson learned, but watching this is like seeing you guys build the dome all over again. 🏳️🌈🤪🏕😂
I hope you're having a great week guys and the Dome is almost finished. Lots of LOVE to both of you.
Amazing job boys, I would have run for the hills! The site of the tent, the river and the home made wine may have made me stay! Inspirational and funny as ever!
Love watching your progress and happy personalities I always feel good after watching your video..everything looks great and your garden is amazing regards Rhonda Australia
The way you two look at one another while the other is speaking is so beautiful. It shows how much you truly love and respect one another. ❤️
👍
OMG you guys, were just looking into it, your experience is gold !
Thank you !
Keep that superb energy, very rare a much appreciated !
Just getting to see you both on here, and you make me wish I was as Brave as you I would have loved to have had that chance
Tyler and Todd, my late dad was a farmer who retired in 1986 and with the exception of him, you two are the hardest working guys I have ever seen. My husband and I love watching all your projects and wish you nothing but health and happiness. Just another name to consider for your fruit and vegetable stand — 19 Rows. All the best!!
You two kill me…..I don't think I have the energy to keep up with you two…..LoL Yeah, I wondered about the hot weather situation…..Man, what a project…..I looks as though the insulation will be a huge improvement.
I'm late to the party this week; but, once again, you guys are amazing! The level of energy you two have is fantastic. So happy to see you improving the dome. (Sorry the house is delayed, though.) But happy you're improving the dome so that you can comfortably stay in it as long as necessary before getting the house done. Stay strong. Stay safe.
Love you guys! Definitely a team. Mistakes are a way of learning. This next winter the Dome will be very warm on those cold blustery northern nights. I live all the way in the south in Florida couldn't deal with such cold but kudos to you two! You are rocking the redesign keep up the good work and see you all next time.
Thank you thank you!!
I’m planning on putting a geodesic dome about the same size in the high desert. I have been also going back and forth on the insulation but now I’ve seen the intense amount of work it is to go back and do it later.
I so appreciate your video!
I’ve made my decision to do it right from the beginning 🤙🏽💫
Hey you two,I admire you two ,for all your efforts, keep up your incredible work, love yeah from Edmonton.
Love watching you!! We are putting up a 36’ Geo Dome in Hawaii. What size is your dome?
one of not many channels where you give a Like before watching the video 😊 it's always nice to see you guys!❤️
Most remarkable is the "Good Cheer" with which you both faced a real difficult "back-track" ! This would be really hard to watch if you had not been in a positive mood ! All the best to you both !
A cover for the window is just an ok idea What you need is an "attic vent". If nothing can easily be done; during the summer disconnect the fireplace and use that hole for a fan. Think big as in exhaust fan for a stove.
poor Lili is still locked inside?
I've seen in the news here in the uk that there are bad fires in Canada I do hope this isn't near you 🙏🙏
