Starting with our Dream Kitchen for our Portuguese Homestead – Super Exciting time!

It is finally time to start our Dream kitchen for our homestead. For us, a Dream kitchen means lots of storage and a place where we’ll cook and preserve lots of healthy food. After 8 months of self-building our entire home, this is a major milestone for us. Plus, this video marks the start of our kitchen series! More to come!

44 weeks ago, we bought an abandoned farm in Tras-os-montes, North Portugal. We’re building our dream house with a public garden, an ice cream kiosk, and our dream house optimized toward minimalist yet comfortable living. But we’re not just building a house – we’re bringing back to life an entire Portuguese Homestead and working on self-sufficiency. We left the Rat trace for a simple life in North Portugal. And this is a slice of our dream and a new simple life.

  2. Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you guys, kitchen looks interesting there is definitely a handy man at work, for the oven maybe look by project camp on you tube they build one of clay very beautiful and working good 👍.

  3. Unique idea with the built in chopping board, I’m intrigued. It’s going to be fantastic!
Shame about the bbq. The idea was great but I’m sure you’ll have a fix for it.
Keep rolling guys, you’re doing great. 😎👍

  4. You guys are doing amazing! I’ve never seen someone that works as hard as Dan. He seems unstoppable and has many talents. Love the bread cutting top…very unique. You make a great team! Elroy was so adorable in the footage…tumbling a bit on his puppy legs…he’s so darn cute.
    Best wishes from Canada.
PS loved the kitchen you showed from Pinterest…yours will be beautiful too and made with your own hands

  5. Wow! Nice start to kitchen. I love the butcher block. Will you do this with all of your countertop? It's a great way to use up your wood. Why buy a countertop? I can't wait to see what's next.🙂👍👍🌲❤🇨🇦

  6. the kitchen build is looking good so far, you need igneous rock to build a fireplace, the sedimentary rock you used is made of layers, air trapped can also make those rocks pop out shards of hot rock so be careful

  7. I had a lovely feeling when your cupboard was built. I bet you must be feeling it too. You have lived temporary lives for so long it’s nice that you can have a permanent cupboard to store your items.

  8. Hi Dan and Cindi, WOW, custom built cabinet for the kitchen is a game changer. Real wood, not compressed. So lucky Dan can do almost anything with wood. Sorry about the BBQ, you could use an old oven rack to place on top where the stone broke or a steel grate. Really enjoyed watching you both working on the cabinet. Its going to be a beauty and so handy for storage. Thanks for sharing. Elroy is almost as big as Mason.

  9. Omg what I would not give to have these skills……I have always had the theory and vision but putting it into reality a no go…….it’s so creative and the solid wood is amazing…..
