  2. Is there a de facto age barrier for study in Portugal (or elsewhere in Europe)? I recently finished – at Sydney University – my PhD in music, which I suppose is something; but I am 60, and have heard unofficially that I would be too old for consideration. What is your advice on this?

    (Unfortunately my Portuguese is very limited. Of course I could do my utmost to improve it; yet I cannot say how good my utmost would be, at my age. My immediate preference would be post-doctoral study in France, where at least I speak the language pretty well.)
