That CHICKEN Episode | Portugal Farm Life 2-17

We buy a Huge Brahma Rooster from the Market in Fundao Central Portugal!

If you are new to this Channel we are Ken & Gina from South Africa and England. In late 2019 we sold our house, quit our jobs, bought a campervan and drove over to Portugal in search of a new life. We bought a beautiful farm between Fundao & Castelo Branco and now live here with our animals. These videos are a journal for us to look back on one day and see how far we have come. We hope you enjoy watching them.

  1. It is appalling how these chickens are treated by the market vendors. It infuriates me how cruel people are to their own animals. But I am so glad you guys saved this Galo from that horrible life. 😁

  2. Can I suggest putting in some bottles with rice in their coop, hang them up with string it’s like enrichment for them

Could even put corn in them and poke holes so when they peck it they get a treat, it will also reduce the risk of your chickens pecking eachotjer :)))

  3. That just shows how caring you are of animals. Demonstrating incredible empathy for the Cockerel's welfare.
I just hate to see any creature subjected to verbal and physical abuse.
I have a humane fly and insect catcher to release them rather than shorten their existence.
Flies and insects dislike smoke and citrus aromas, it subdues them and makes them relax.
It is often our own ignorance that creates the issues in the first instance; Preparation is the key.
This is probably why the ecosystem is in such disarray, lessons haven't been learnt because of copycat behaviour mimicked through time and the inability to learn.
Vegetarians and Vegans are still caught out by organic farming and just mostly stuff their faces with processed ingredients, unaware of their origins.

  4. (Moira Ashton) I so enjoyed this one, especially the chifkens, and I'm so hlad you got the rooster – someone else might not have bothered to take him to the vet (they wouldn't here in Spain) he wil live the life of Riley with you,… (I have seen him on some recent videos looking good). 🐓🐓🐓🐓

  5. Not sure what Pine trees you planted, but the 'rounded' pine tree you get in Portugal can have issues with processionary caterpillars, which can cause problems for your animals or you. Hopefully, you don't get the little blighters! I find your videos super inspirational and so relaxing to watch too. 🙂

  6. You guys are doing fantastic. You love and care for your animals and it's great to see. Only came across the channel a couple of days ago so I'm kind of playing catch-up to get bang up to date with the progress. Good luck to you both.

  7. Hi! The woman at the market was mad at her grandchild who had disappeared from her sight 😁, just normal "family love/screaming".
Thank you for helping that rooster 👍It still is very dificult to change some people mentality about their animals who are treated rather as possessions than as living beings. We' ll get there, I hope.

  8. I'm portuguese and I've been watching your videos and what a relief to see you find someone to translate and help in all the burucratic stuff in junta de freguesia, i was worried for you cause most of the people in this places don't speak English and in junta they difficult our lifes too much and with the linguistic barrier I was worried for you. 😅good luck😀
