Demolishing those unwanted bricks continues and it was a whole lot of fun. To find out what is next on the agenda to restore this beautiful abandoned Portuguese Ruin? Well….subscribe to follow our Journey and find out😁
4 years ago we bought a 17 hectare (that is 42 acre) magical piece of land here in Central Portugal with beautiful boulders and 500 metres of river that borders it for just €58,000 back in 2018 . We are renovating a massive beautiful ruin and finishing our tiny house which is a gypsy-style caravan We were tired of being a part of the rat race and constantly chasing our tails, Luke and I decided to leave our home country in search of a simpler more rewarding way of life and we found it in this paradise that is Portugal where we have been living for the last 4 years off-grid and debt-free. We make videos about our experiences living as total beginners and take you along on our journey with the aim to reach self-sufficiency in the near future, we upload a new episode every Sunday and our topics cover our everyday life living off-grid. We love putting these videos together and through these videos we hope to inspire you to go after your dreams and help create more awareness to the well-being of our planet

I looked up glaying I must be spelling it wrong. Brush killer will kill the brambles. It’s usually glysophate which is a very potent herbicide. You will need protective equipment including / mask. The only other way is to dig them up however a pesky root of the brambles could be left behind.
It's a male but because your other male is the dominant one he won't come out. I thing. Otherwise he's a heshe 😁
If you save in a thank the pigs poo you can produce methane gas good for cooking
They will break through use boiling hot water several times and each time cover with plastic and they will die
try vinegar on the brambles….
Thanks!
I enjoy your series every time. Thank you so much for this inspiring content.
Careful with pesticides when you have goats if they were to eat the bushes
Hi this weed killer is safe and cheap to make. It takes a couple of day to kill the plant.
1 gallon of vinegar USA gallon
2 cups of epsom salt
1/4 cup of liquid dish soap.
Mix up and Put it in a pressure spray bottle,
Best and cheapest is diesel
he is a rooster
What will you do with the rubble that you have from the demo?
Can‘t wait to see what your restoration project will look like! 🌀💚🌀
We had problems on our NZ property with invasive species like wild ginger. We found if you don't want to spray, by powered herbicide and mix it up with a flower paste (like making glue), you then damage the top part of any plant you want to kill and paint on the paste with a brush. Its a very targeted approach and has less impact on wider planting or ground cover, the principle is that is draws in the herbicide to the roots of the plant and destroys everything underground. In the wet you have to cover the area you have painted herbicide onto to prevent it being washed way. For animal care either use a hot wire to section off the zone while the herbicide is active or include a pungent spice the goats and dogs hate the smell of, also a bright food colouring helps you see where its been applied.
Pour diesel on the brambles, it will kill them down to the roots
Use bleach to kill the weeds just simply spray over them. Your rooster look alike is the third gender.
Olà …… Sarah and Bob the builder (aka Luke) … 😉 Nice job on removing the wall… and the chicken I think you have the first X-gender chicken… 😉 and yes to get rid of weeds burning is a nice option but being in Portugal you don’t want to burn the whole place down… boiling water also works I use it a lot to destroy weeds on my terrace but it only works on young plants whit small root systems. But best option pull out the root system an fill it with cement… they won’t pop up again…. As long there are no cracks in the cement.
And what do you mean worms can’t swim? Darwinism still has a long way to go… 😉
And good news on the digger…. hopefully everything will get repaired and working again…..always a nice alternative on transport to go shopping when you’re car is at the garage for service…
And looking forwards to see the pigs… see you soon… tchua Dirk
Boots may be a lady boy. Thanks for the compass points, it makes a difference 👍.
We used old cooking oil on some not sure if old engine oil would kill them, we also used bags of course salt it stopped them pushing up our tar😉
If you break that up some more you could line your road with all that hard pack.
someone getting big boobies there 😉 so exciting
I don't know what it is, the STONE houses looks amazingly build and all the walls, but as soon as someone builds with bricks in Portugal it looks like crap… whats up with that?
Luke may I recommend you only take off the roof tiles when you are ready to fix the wall and seal it so it doesn't rain down into the wall and ruin it?
YOUR Boots is a rooster but may have a hormone imbalance, look up androgens, it can then look like a rooster, but behave like a hen😂
Liked this episode. We used to have a pet goat named Gruff from the billy goats gruff tale. I mentioned to my wife that he would have tried to knock over your wheelbarrow if he were there and moments later Meatball tried exactly that himself. Funny, made me miss Gruff. Dave from Missouri
vinegar , salt soap mixture should kill the weeds and is cheep ,safe for you and the animals also the land
Your goats 🐐 are so curious. They want to inspect everything you are doing. They are adorable.
JUST A TIP. Husqvarna products is much better then sthil…………..
Love your videos!
I get rid of brambles (or ivy or other weeds) by cutting them low. Make sure there are no leaves. When the plants start growing & are about to bud out some leaves, prune/pick/strim them again until there are no leaves. You might have to repeat one more time, but as long as you don't allow the plant to grow leaves, it will run out of reserves in the roots & die. The key is to not let the plant regrow leaves, which lets the plants feed themselves. Works for me!
What reason do you have to think the building was illegal? It just looked like a traditional Portuguese building style to me. Lots of those brick etc buildings all over Portugal. You can see them all the time on Youtube. They definitely aren't as beautiful as the ancient stone buildings but I think they have their own charm and you seemed to have a nice example of one. I'm doubting the building was actually illegal.
So glad that Luke loves to "twist" otherwise who is going to?
With brambles you have to get the root, otherwise they’ll grow back. Just remove the stone get the roots and put the rock back 😊
Boots is a bird of the future…gender unknown
Another happy time on your land 😃 it’s quite exciting when you are starting on a new project which will eventually become your own home 🥰😜
Brambles won't grow through concrete .
That is a rooster!
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 love you guys.
Love how the goats were "helping" you with the demo clean up 😂
