The END of Portugal Golden Visa program and the impacts on applicants

The Portugal Golden Visa is a form of resident visa granted to non-EU citizens who have made investments in Portugal, such as buying real estate, making capital investment, or creating job opportunities.
It is a streamlined procedure to become a citizen and have permanent residence in a member state of the European Union. In as short as five years, you can qualify for Portuguese citizenship under the Golden Visa scheme.
The program offers a quick route to residence or citizenship compared to the challenges of obtaining international protection, legal immigration, or naturalization through traditional routes for investors.
It requires little to no physical presence in the country. The recipients of Golden Visas can travel freely within the Schengen region as soon as they are issued.
In September 2022 compared to the same month the previous year, the number of Golden Visas more than doubled, according to data from the Portuguese Immigration and Border Service (SEF).
However, the times has come.
According to Portugal’s Prime Minister Antonio Costa, the 10-year-old Golden Visa program, often known as the citizenship-for-investment program, may be abolished because it seems to have achieved its goals.

Watch this video as Jaime from Intergentium Asia and Antonio Vinal from AVCO legal discuss the news that the prime minister revealed in November 2022 and go into detail about how it would impact visa applications and renewals.

Intergentium Asia provides migration consultation and services for clients in Asia who are interested in the EU Golden Visa.
