  4. On the continued spending by consumers, don't forget that inflation provides an incentive for consumers to buy an item now, before the price goes up. The risk is whether the resulting inventories in individual households will lead to a sudden falloff in consumer purchasing, simply because consumers have fewer things they haven't already bought.
