THE TINDER SWINDLER's Women Were NOT Victims

“The Tinder Swindler” is a documentary film released by streaming service provider Netflix on the 2nd of February 2022 worldwide and tells the story of the “Prince of Diamonds” “Simon Leviev” (one of several aliases of Israeli con artist Shimon Yehuda Hayut, and the supposed son of billionaire Lev Avnerovich Leviev, a magnate of the diamond industry known as the “King of Diamonds”), who was able to swindle a large number of women on Tinder and other dating apps out of millions of dollars total in a kind of Ponzi scheme (where he’d lure new women using the money of the already conned ones), allowing him to maintain a luxurious lifestyle at their expense (full of fancy dinners, big alcohol-fueled parties, 5-star hotel stays, private jet trips, expensive clothes, cars, apartments, and jewelry, etc.).

The documentary interviews and follows the story of three of the fooled females who were lending him money, portrayed here as his “victims” (quotation marks are mine): Cecilie Fjellhøy, Pernilla Sjöholm, and Ayleen Charlotte. It also covers the way three Norwegian VG journalists (Erlend Ofte Arnsten, Kristoffer Kumar, and Natalie Remøe Hansen) were able to expose the scammer, who had already been previously convicted of fraud and served time in prison. Also, and naturally, the documentary shares a little bit of what is known about the story of the conman himself.

As my debuting Monochromatic Monologue, and having recently watched “The Tinder Swindler”, I decided to do my brief review of/reaction to its plot and present my reasons on why I think that – contrary to what was depicted in the film – the women featured were NOT victims of the cunning protagonist but rather villains (more precisely of the “gold digger” type), just like the swindler himself…

ABOUT THE MONOCHROMATIC MONOLOGUES CHANNEL

My name is João Ruivo III, I hail from Portugal, and I’m someone who likes to get lost in his own thoughts about the world and feels an uncontrollable urge to share them with that world, hence the creation of this channel, where I make them public based on my personal worldviews/values/tendencies described below.

I, unapologetically, consider myself – by alphabetical order – antitheist, apolitical, demiheterosexual, doomer, empiricist, existentialist, ignostic, masculinist, materialist, MGTOW (genuine, NOT one of those misogynistic crybabies), misanthrope, polyamorous, racialist (NOT racist), skeptic (NOT denialist), vegan (ethical), among other sexy features.

Hope you can find something interesting around here, as I couldn’t care less if you feel triggered by what you may perceive as my “controversial” opinions. If that’s the case, please look for more destructive ways to waste your time.
