Congratulations on the residency permit, Ken, and roll on Gina's. Ash from bonfires used to be used round rose bushes….maybe any plant would benefit – just don't throw diesel on the bonfire!!

So we're gonna have a bad year of Olives and its price is gonna be shoot to space for the next 12 months as olive oil, I presume 🙁

Instead of burning off the olive prunings in a bonfire, can it not be used for firewood and kindling for the winter?

Why do you not do your own olives or do they belong to the farmer because the farmer seems to do all the work your farm

For the flies – BASF make a product (RipCord) that you spray around doors and windows and it is great at knocking them back around Chickens and houses…
Hippies hate it but it will combine with the fly traps and keep that population down.

BTW How is the dam doing ?

The residency card is good for five years but you must have a D7 resident visa too, right? And that has to be renewed every two years…?

Bummer about the olives. I would just bag it , look forward to next year.

@OKportugal I was pondering about your olive harvest situation. Do you have access to silage tarps? You could put one around the bottom of one of your olive trees, white side facing up, and when you start to see a few olives on the tarp you know you're getting close to harvest time. It sure would give you a heads-up and be easier than trying to see a few greenish olives on green grass. Just a thought.

I have already harvested my two young olive trees and the olives are on brine sauce, only two kilos. I love olives they go with almost every thing. I don´t know if I do things right because the olives take along time to get ready to eat, last year took 7 months.

I live in Andalusia and have a neighbor who has goats , he feeds them the olive branches, maybe you can give them to a goat breeder in your area and get some goat cheese in exchange.
