THINGS are LOOKING UP!!! 🚜 PORTUGAL FARM LIFE S4-E43

Its Autumn, the weather isn’t great, and we aren’t sure what’s happening with our olive harvest for this year. Droughts and summer heatwaves have decimated our olive crop. But things are looking up 🙂

We are Ken & Gina. 2.5 years ago, we got fed up with paying a mortgage, and working boring jobs just to keep our heads above water!
We decided to take a big chance, sell everything we own, buy a motorhome, and drive to Portugal with our furry friends.
We bought a beautiful farm in Central Portugal where we live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of other farm animals.

Every week we release new episodes of our Portugal Farm Life where you can get an inside look at how we live, on and around the farm, and adapt to the challenges of our new lives.

  1. Good morning all, its been a busy week so we actually have 2 vlogs for you to watch.
This first one is short and sweet, but we have another special vlog which will be airing tomorrow! (Monday)
Be sure to tune in tomorrow. Its a good one! 🙂

  2. Congratulations on the residency permit, Ken, and roll on Gina's. Ash from bonfires used to be used round rose bushes….maybe any plant would benefit – just don't throw diesel on the bonfire!!

  3. Glad you pronounced "nh" of Gardunha properly! 🙂 Though the 1st A is not open, it sounds like the I of Girl (gal). Portuguese has 12 vowels, not 5 :)))
So we're gonna have a bad year of Olives and its price is gonna be shoot to space for the next 12 months as olive oil, I presume 🙁

  4. For the flies – BASF make a product (RipCord) that you spray around doors and windows and it is great at knocking them back around Chickens and houses…
Hippies hate it but it will combine with the fly traps and keep that population down.

BTW How is the dam doing ?

  5. Hello happy people! 😊

Puppy Eddie and his stick🌴🥩 😄
Would it help your fence and prolong its life for a bit longer to zip-tie the top of the wire fencing to the posts?
    A tout a l'heure! 👋🏼 ("toodle-loo")

  6. @OKportugal I was pondering about your olive harvest situation. Do you have access to silage tarps? You could put one around the bottom of one of your olive trees, white side facing up, and when you start to see a few olives on the tarp you know you're getting close to harvest time. It sure would give you a heads-up and be easier than trying to see a few greenish olives on green grass. Just a thought.
All the best, Ken & Gina!

  7. Harriet and i were planning to pick up leaves that had fallen (loads of them on the front lawn). Guess what? It rained yesterday and it's raining today. Somebody upstairs is telling you it's time to just chill out. Hope you and the dogs are doing well. Sending our love guys😍😍😍 Jim, Harriet and Yuki . Richmond, Va.

  8. I have already harvested my two young olive trees and the olives are on brine sauce, only two kilos. I love olives they go with almost every thing. I don´t know if I do things right because the olives take along time to get ready to eat, last year took 7 months.

  9. No ano passado todas as oliveiras deram toneladas de azeitonas por todo o país. Este ano dão menor quantidade…a natureza é sábia… lembre-se que as oliveiras velhas neste país têm mil anos ou mais.
