We are John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer Newby. A family of explorers who’s taken root in Northern Portugal where we’re renovating an abandoned farm into our dream off-grid homestead.
On and off, we have been traveling for over 20 years and have explored more than 160 of the world’s 193 countries, it’s been quite a journey, and now we are sharing our adventures weekly here on YouTube with new episodes EVERY SUNDAY.
BE BRAVE – THINK BIG – EXPLORE
Because we believe that lines across a map are more important than numbers in the bank.
Thanks so much for watching!!!

Hello Newbys….glad to watch your videos again….take care
well done guys……eh….
Love olives and olive oil!!!
Oh, my mud puddles galore!
I've never seen a plumber that looks like that. Wowsers!
" Can you say pink?" And Crusoe says…,"Daddy"! 😂 Love that boy!
Hang in there both. You will get there and when done you start all again.
Best Wishes All.
You got your gear lever fixed? I missed last week as it was TOO busy all week. Love to you all xx
👍👌🏻
My weekly fix with my Portuguese family😉 love it. Sawyer is looking so much like his brother 😘
You are an amazing woman, Tara, just like the rest of women all over the world: taking care of a baby and a toddler, doing housework and filming… all at once! Indeed, multi-tasking is a woman's expertise… Kudos to John, too, for your hard work and for adventurously creative. What I see in you, guys, is the value of hard work and perseverance for the love of your family! All the best… 🙏🙏 Take good care of your health!
When I saw it was pouring rain on one of your last videos I thought, ghee wouldn’t it be good if you had some rain barrels set up. 😂 Perhaps something to look into.

Hola Queridos amigos los niños cada día crecen más y están tan bellos los veo siempre me encantan saludos
Hi John & Tara! Every week I watch your videos with my father, he loves your videos and is in love with the renovations that you are doing! However, he doesn't speak english, so I have to translate everything in the video for him 😅 Is it possible to add portuguese subtitles to your videos? Is that something easy to do? It would help us a lot!!
Wishing you and the kids all the best!! ✨
Now that’s how you get olives off the tree.., chop it down!! 😂
Like a big boys play ground that farm, cranking up the chainsaw, feasting on fresh olives but, we know it’s not as easy as it looks to us.
You’re all working hard to create a dream property!
Can’t wait to see this finished, I bet you can’t too! 😁
Oh, Tara, you must be exhausted, trying to do all the work with two little ones. As you say to Crusoe, well done little buddy.
Tara – if you have time go view "Little Spanish Farmstead" on YT. Harriet and her hubby bought an abandoned farmstead in Spain about a year ago. Just recently she did a video on the olives she picked – also from a tree that she had to cut down. If I recall she posted the vlog about 2 weeks ago. Very interesting what she did with the olives…put layers with lots of salt. I will find the title of her vlog as I cannot remember it now.
Firstly, thank you for correcting my spelling of Joao's name! I'd guessed I probably didn't have it right but luckily I doubt he will ever see my comment so *Phew! *😉
I'd be exactly the same as Tara over cutting down the Olive tree! We know these things are ultimatley for the best but somehow it seems so unfair! Mind you, I can't even take the tops and side shoots off my tomatoes each year without feeling like a monster! Lol!
Tara, both you and John are the embodiment of positivity each week no matter what it thrown your way, but you are quite right that sometimes the down times need acknowledgement too – You can't savour the good times if there are never any bad ones💚
xx
Well done guys . House looks amazing
