Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

  1. The banister needs to be solid, instead of metal rods. In such a small space you'll appreciate being able to 1) stow items behind it, out of sight, 2) hide an unmade bed, 3) protect your eyes while sleeping from lighting on the ground level, and 4) having a little privacy from visitors at the door, etc, etc. Just a thought.

  2. 💥 What if you run the REBAR pieces HORIZONTALLY ?
They would look akin to the horizontal latter steps.
    Just thinking. 🤗
AND…. you wouldn't have to cut SO MANY short pieces of rebar to work with. ☺
(I hope my spelling is correct.)
    LOVE YOUR HOME !! 💖🌹

  3. Hi Theo just wanted to mention I noticed you said “ this is what I brought” this is incorrect English, if you brought it you have taken it from one place to another! The correct English should be “ this is what I bought” meaning you paid for the said item! I hope you don’t take offence at me telling you this ,it’s just I used to say the exact same thing till someone pointed it out to me, so I thought I’d tell you. Ps love what you’ve both done and look forward to your videos every week your house looks amazing thank you for all you guys do love ya! fellow Brumy from the Black Country though lived in kingsheath for while sister still lives there. Thanks again Theo and bea, love you bothxxxx

  4. Indeed, you are absolutely right: a shed/workshop has been sorely lacking for you since the beginning of your renovation, and when I saw that you had bought a small 4×4 machine last summer, that is exactly what I said to myself: "oh no! What a pity with this money he could have bought a shed…" It would have made your task so much easier… But so are men: eternal big children with dreams to satisfy… And I also speak as a man! 😉
    (I read you from France)

  5. Looking great! Can't you just get rid of the middle beam and just use the steel rods instead? Just an idea that would give it a more spacious look. Anyway, keep them videos coming, always excited to see what you guys are up to next!

  6. That rail is what I was talking about. How are you going to secure the rail to make it safe? You could make a doorway using longer vertical end polls bolted to the floorbeam and roof beam. You might want to look at the Viewrail, all tempered glass, a nice product used for stairs and decking so you can obtaine full visibility. Looks good though. The cats will have more to walk on.

  7. Theo, I might be wrong … but you look quite exhausted and tired. Due to your Covid-Infection recently I am a bit concerned. I myself suffer from ME/CFS and I know that Long-Covid causes similar symptoms. Please take care and, most important: know and stay within your limits. Just a friendly advice, no offence! 🙂

  8. Should of added take the Tedium out of painting things like that if you cut a small piece of guttering block each end then pouring your paint and dip them for a minute and then simply stand them up brush of the excess simples!

  9. Me again, just a top tip, the barrier should be half way over the edge, reason why is that the newel post at the top of the ladder should be half lapped over the chestnut beam then bolted through to be super steady, otherwise it’ll always be rickety and never survive if you fall against it ,plus it’ll give you another 2 inches of room on the floor .

  10. Great going! This will complete your mezzanine stunningly. Use crates for clothing and get your kitchen done! Then you can live comfortably while you plan your barn/workshop.
