Three Things You Should Think About When Looking For An Apartment in Portugal | TALK Travel Eat

Here are three things you should think about when looking for an apartment in Portugal:

1. Always look for an apartment in your budget in the best/most affluent neighborhoods in your city of choice.

2. Do you really need an extra bedroom?

3. Don’t discount the importance of a building with an elevator if that’s what you need.

  1. Hi Kirsten, Great video as always! Do you mind sharing how you found your apartment, did you use a certain website or hired a company/person to help you find the perfect apartment? Any suggestions will be appreciated, I am in the process of applying for the D7 Visa. Muito Obrigada! 🙂

  2. Thanks for the great advice, Kirsten! I’ve never really thought about looking for something within your budget in the best neighborhoods. That’s something to keep in mind anywhere you live. (And now noted in my mind.) I’m glad you were able to find a place you really love in a great neighborhood!

  3. Kristen, your videos are always very transparent and honest to advise those who may be going over the experience of traveling there and looking for an apartment (in my opinion the most complicated and stressful situation in moving abroad), you bring real and honest common sense. Which are the top three neighborhoods in Lisbon to narrow the search?

  4. Hey Kirsten! Great info!! So, I don't know how we do it, but I think it has a lot to do with timing and intuition…OK, some luck! We did not have any idea of area we wanted to live in Lisbon and it was solely based on price! We moved into a hotel so it was also based on affordability as well!! My main requirements were some sort of outdoor living space and a fully functioning kitchen…We ended up taking a smaller apt knowing it was temporary, but it had those 2 things! We got so lucky on the area(Avenidas Novas) and I have never been so happy living a simple minimalist lifestyle!! My guests stayed at the Lisbon Serviced Apartments just across the street from us…PERFECT! The key for us in finding our apartment and now home was being here and looking daily and finding it ourselves…Agent only for the process, but zero for finding what you want!!!

  5. Thanks Kirsten—Appreciate your ‘words-of-wisdom’ from you and Mark. (1) Strongly concur…don’t underestimate the need for an elevator. When I was a teenager, I Iived w/my parents in a 4-floor walk-up. We were ALL younger back then and we ALL struggled. Don’t do it! ❌ (2) Agree 100-percent on the neighborhood idea. We’re still trying to figure out where we will live in PT. Our 2nd scouting trip is coming soon. 🤞🏻 (3) We’ll consider your point about the ‘extra’ bedroom. At this juncture we don’t know if our son will be joining us so we’re keeping an open mind. Overall, I appreciate your advice and ‘lessons learned’ videos! 🙏🏻
