Love your ideas!
I don't know a lot about fruit trees, but I've heard other people mention that sometimes you need two plants for pollination. Maybe check with a fruit grower? Good luck!
How much do the fruit trees cost?
Lovely to meet Victoria – you make a great team.
raise the roof a little, about half a meter more and you will have better movement up
Looking forward to follow your plans for fixing the stone house.
A side addition of a floor based bedroom with bath would be cost effective and look great.
So nice to see Victoria. Hope she will be more in the videos.
Sounds like a wonderful idea Ricky! Where will you live during the renovation? I just had a quick thought… would it be cheaper and easier to purchase a pre made structure like Al did from LUMNAH? I know several people have built out sheds to house on some channels I watch. The Amish do a wonderful job with sheds to homes.I know at one point you could get 10% off ordering off Lumnah & Al asked the guy if he could get 10% off and he told him yes. So.. Al purchased a storage for his firewood. Always worth a try to ask you never know if you decide to check from that particular company. Either way good luck. I love how beautiful your property is! I am happy you have several structures on your property! Nice to see Victoria today! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Blessings
I love the idea of the stone structure being renovated… after seeing Theo and Bee do it, I have been hooked on them… Can't wait to see yours take shape… Hello to Victoria, nice to see you on this one… Cheers for sharing Ricky, love your camera work!
use those weeds to make liquid fertilizer…do not put them in the compost pile…
Ricky and Victoria, the plum tree if it is a Victoria Plum tree, it is supposed to be self pollinating. I have had one for year's and I haven't had any fruit so far. If it's not you will need a 2nd one unless there is one near by. I know you need 2 Pear Trees and 2 Apple Trees but not sure about the other Trees. The best of luck with your new project. I am really looking forward to seeing the transformation of it. 👍😉🇮🇪☘️
Hi Ricky thank you for sharing your project, another quality upload. 👍
excellent choice in doing up the existing tiny house ! cant wait to see it unfold ! my winter project is to plant a small selection of fruit trees at 1 end of our house so it will be interesting to follow the growth of yours aswell ! say hi to Victoria.
👍👌🏻👍🌼
All your stone fruits; peaches, plums, apples, etc do not cross pollinate. You need to plant at least 2 of each so that they will cross pollinate and bare fruit.
Thoroughly enjoying the series and the progress you are making. Great decision to ditch the timber building and concentrate on renovating the stone building, in the long run that will be money well spent. Once you have renovated your main house and moved back in, the tiny house has the potential for Airbnb / short-lets as an additional income should you need it. A small tip that I learn't from my Mum many years ago; When you are planting anything from trees, shrubs & plants that come in pots, just before you pop them into the new soil just scratch the earth around the sides that have been up against the inside of the pot to release the tiny roots. This will help them to quickly start growing outwards into the new soil.
I had a lowquat tree for years. It was great. Unfortunately all of a sudden the entire tree fell over. It was about 30? ft tall.
Nice seeing Victoria.
The cost of wood anywhere in the U.S. is horrible, also. Don't feel it is just Portugal. If you are doing the roof, at least you have lots of experience, since you did so much work helping Theo & Bee. That should help you a lot. Good luck with your new plan.
Hi Ricky, Not sure if you remember a comment I posted in your early video about your pasture… hopefully this will help. The best thing to do with that area is check the ph of the soil. Acidic and /or nutrient/mineral deficient soils with favour weed growth. Anytime you expose soil, you will encourage weed growth before grass. There will be at least 7 to 10 years of weed seed banked in your soil. Let the grass grow to the height that is the maximum your mower can handle, just prevent any weeds from flowering. You can more easily pull the troublesome weeds when they are larger. If you keep mowing the grass at the maximum height in Autumn and then in Spring, (leave itnalone in winter) you will stimulate even more grass growth and get it to thicken up.
The dead grass you referred to may very well be dormant spring species. Depending on the ph, a dressing of lime may be beneficial. This is how we managed our commercial organic dairy pastures. Over grazing/mowing is the worse thing you can do as it weakens the grass plant and opens up the soil cover and then the weeds take off. Victoria was spot on.. scalping.
If you follow what I've said up until the end of next spring, you will have a vastly improved pasture. At this stage you probably wont need to fertilise it on any level as you're not removing nutrients (like you would if an animal was grazing). Sing out if you have any questions…
Can't wait to follow the stone conversion!!!!!!!
Watched from the USA!
Lovely to see happy dogs!
Wow that's a great project. Will you get some help from Theo of the Indie Project as you always helped them out. Looking forward to seeing how things progress
Great to see the rest of the family. Love having fruit trees. Had an excellent crop of plums this year and some tasty pears. It would be great to grow oranges, lemons and grapefruit. Perhaps with climate change it might be possible !!
Excited to follow the new renovation. Great to see Victoria in this video, she's a natural in front of the camera! Beautiful fruit trees!
For the roof perhaps consider tile effect insulated roofing sheets – so easy to fit and maintenance free.
Are you doing the roof yourself Ricky?
rabits would love those weeds.
Hello! That’s a whole lot of grass to weed 😂 can you get organic weed killer? I had some for my allotment. Great to see the garden looking lush and green again, all our gardens needed it 💚
Lovely to see Victoria too, think it’s just Poppy who loves the rain 😂 Have a great week 👍
I really like your plans for renovating that little cottage. Later on down the line it would be great guest accommodations, or a vacation rental. Love the start of your fruit orchard.
Lunatic dogs are most entertaining canines. We celebrate the calm ones and the nut cases!
That was a huge area to weed! Wow! Looked very nice and I'm sure your grass will be popping up in a couple weeks time. I love your pups! He's so 'kicked-back' and easy going & she [Poppy] is a funny goofball! Love her playfulness! ❤️ Cheers to you both!
I hope your fruit trees take and grow well !
Glad you are planting fruit trees!!
For the folks in the USA can you add the feet and inches in print? I would appreciate it!
My husband finds mowing the lawn therapeutic too!
Glad you have rain in your part of Portugal! Sorry about the weeds!
Enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing looking forward to watching your progress nice to see Victoria & the dogs are just precious. Puppy is just so full of energy so happy y’all rescued him.
some weeds will die with the frost, others not…
😀
Hello Ricky and Victoria… Enjoyed your video ☺️
Hi from Washington state. I'm so proud of you for taking on the "Get more Experience Project" in the next renovation. You have a strong tiny house already and glad you're going to use it.
It was nice to have a Poppy Fix and a Victoria fix all in the same video. Way to go on the grass. The broad leaf weed is actually like spinach and is totally edible cooked or in a salad. Free food.
Oh that will be a super little cabin! So without the tiny house, where will you sleep while construction is going on in the main house? we recently got an electric mower for our lawn, it's not a very big area, and I love mowing, seeing it all neat and tidy, and don't have to deal with the oil and gas. Lovely to see Victoria!
Good idea to renovate what you have rather than build new.
Not sure a 2 stage mezzanine is a good idea though. The point of a mezzanine is to increase the usable area and the low part won't do that except possibly to allow a bit of storage underneath. Personally I would have it span the half of the house over the kitchen/bathroom 4m x 2.5m has plenty of room for a bed and some clothes storage.
Are you sure that all the fruit trees are self fertile ? Sometimes with apples you need 2 trees for cross fertilisation….
Good luck
i have told you about making shed out of pallets. it will last just as long and they are cheap or even free
Well done
Great idea for the new project Ricky. Looking forward to following the stages. Good to have Victoria in video too 👍
