Tour of My Half Acre of Off Grid Land in Central Portugal

Let me show you around my small 1,800 m2 (half acre) off grid piece of land here in Central Portugal. I’m renovating a creepy stone barn and turning it into a tiny house plus I’m designing the land based on permaculture principles. I plan on having a massive garden, a food forest, out buildings made from natural materials, a splash pool, and loads more. I bought it back in September 2020 and paid €13,750 for what I think is a little piece of paradise here in Portugal.

  1. Kristy, just subscribed and can't wait to see where you go with the land. I would wish you would include a 'rough' timeline for the projects if you're able. Checked out your maps of Africa and they are wonderful! What talent you have. What made you settle in Portugal?

  2. Thank you for giving as tour of your future of your garden i will like to fallow your journey of planting. I did subscribe i am Canadian 🇨🇦 too i am retired living in somaliland, Hargaysa.

  3. So glad I found your channel! You're presently living my future life (near future, I'm hoping to buy my land this fall and move early 2023.) I really appreciate you talking about land size – I've been looking at larger plots as I have 5 acres in the US but it's too much. I think a little goes a long way when you're doing a lot of gardening and living simply. Here's to women moving to Portugal on their own and making their dream place!

  4. It’s lovely, you have a great attitude, you have to enjoy the work and not worry too much about where you’re going with it. I’m doing a similar thing is Spain, good luck to you, oh, that avocado does seem a bit exposed, mulch like crazy and it will love your humanure. Walnuts are tricky. All the best and thanks for sharing 🥑🫒🍠🧄🥬👏👌🙏

  5. Hello very nice videos! I think it's good that you are so professional and calm about the matter. Many emigrants overdo themselves on their 3, 5, 7, or even more Ha on the first day. Some thinking more is better. Have a nice day and good luck.
    Regards 👍👍👍💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏

  6. I went to your web site and read your January post. Read that you were aiming at making 400 euro per month. I have watched some other bloggers and when they have particular projects they need to tackle they set up the option for people to buy them a cup of coffee. I have no clue how this works but it seems to work out for these sloggers and they get their projects done. Please consider.

  7. Yes. Because pond scum and algae are living organisms, they are rich sources of nitrogen that break down quickly in the compost pile. Using pond scum as fertilizer also incorporates important nutrients, such as potassium and phosphorus, into the compost.

  8. I think your water is a spring and the stuff you skim off the top will be a good addition to your compost. I was lucky enough to be able to get a large spool that probably came from a cable or electrical company and I was thinking that one side of a spool like mine would make an excellent well cover. though with your little car it might be difficult for you to scavenge materials like that and get them home. Sad since pallets could really help you out with a little fence around your front garden area or maybe a little chicken tractor so you could get some chickens out in your orchard now… which would be great for the grass and weed control. Love the aesthetic of your house!! Is Portugal an expensive place to acquire land?

  9. The water is most likely near-surface ground water that flows underneath from higher grounds. Making a collection of rocks stacked together inside the terrain can make sub-surface water appear at edges of terraces like these.

  10. Your website is even more interesting with details of your journey to your off grid life in Portugal. I would recommend your website to anyone here who has just came across your channel.
