With respect Joric, Alfama is a neighborhood and not a district…There's a lot of confusion with regards to districts and municipalities which are further divided into parishes or fregiesias and then neighborhoods! Lisbon is district and Lisbon metropolitan is one of 16 municipalities…In Lisbon municipality there are 24 freguesias and Alfama is a neighborhood in the freguesia of Santa Maria Maior São Vicente! Cascais and Sintra are municipalities for example, but Belem and Estrela are freguesias, but Alfama us not!! In addition, Setúbal is another district and not a municipality of Lisbon like everyone thinks!! We are buying a house so I gad to understand all of this in order to make a well informed decision on house and area!! Ever heard of Torres Vedras? It I one of the 16 municipalities of Lisbon district like Cascais or Sintra where we are moving…Hidden gem I think!😉
