  1. One thing I have done for years is to start reading the local paper online for the place that we will be traveling a few weeks before we leave. This helps me kind of get a feel for the place and alerts me to any issues we might encounter like strikes or demonstrations. I also get good up to date entertainment and food advice this way.

  2. Hi guys! Thanks for your great videos. I'm just a few months behind you! I am arriving in PT with my carry-on only for scouting and sight-seeing for about 5 weeks, then on to other European budget cities. Just put Budva, Montenegro on my list thanks to your previous video. : )

  3. Great tips!, I'm writing them down the "old" people way, with Pen and paper. Lol
I'm curious how do you manage the gaps between air bnb stays? You are moving every month but is the next apartment always available the very next day? Is it stressful to make all the dates fit together seamlessly?

  4. Google voice has been a life saver for me. That said I did have it confirm that my linked number was still valid. Be sure to pick a linked number that's not going anywhere. T-mobile in my case has threatend to turn us off since we've been gone so long. We turned of the data and just use our numbers for text messages which so far has worked. We are on our first extended trip abroad to see how everything works out. We've been gone about 8 months so far with just over 2 left to go. Larned a lot on this trip. I've needed my VPN on several occasions. Like you going to downsize. I thought I was light bringing a US sized carry-on. I think they're 24". I'm going to downsize to a 22" and bring one less pair of pants. Thanks for the great videos.

  5. Hello! It appears my comments are not showing up here for some reason, so just trying it again. Sorry if you have repeats! Was just wondering if Whatsapp can be used in place of Google Voice and if using Whatsapp, do you have to port your # over like you do with GV? Thanks! Again, sorry if you see this a few times, I'm not seeing my comments post here for some reason, but they have posted on other vids you've done.

  6. Yet another great video , my wife and I are itching to start doing what you’re doing! Soooon! Can we ask how old you two are as you seem to be in our age bracket 🤷‍♂️

  7. I'm so impressed that you got down to one carry on so fast! I just discovered you both and am hooked! So how long have you been together? You're so lucky to have someone to explore the world with. Thanks for the great tips.

I planned to take off Oct 2020, but Covid grounded me and I adopted a senior cat who is now 20+. Once she's gone, I'm taking off so I need to get myself down to a carry on. Are there any cons with your current lifestyle?

  8. My husband and I are travelling to Ireland in the fall and Vietnam next spring. I have FINALLY convinced him that we are going carry-on only. I told him that I was doing it, and that I wasn’t waiting at luggage carousels AT ALL – I’m so glad that he’s finally onboard

  9. Great video ! Few little tips that I always use. Always photo your cases before you check them in – so much easier to describe to lost luggage. Always steal hotel shower caps – they are great to wrap around dirty shoes for packing and lastly …. You can change the language on European Digital TVs – that way if you are bored there is always a CSI, Friends or Property Brothers to watch !

  10. Have been watching this channel for a while! This is actually a thing that we do with my wife 👰 Some tapas, some wine and watch walking/driving or nature/vlog videos from around the world ! It was entertaining, we really loved your energy..
By the way we travel too, if you want to discover something new, please check out our channel 😉

  11. Thanks C&B for the great tips. Some observations: (1) Sherpa. I’m able to access Sherpa info via the American Airlines web site (select ‘Travel Updates’ followed by ‘Travel and Health Destinations by Restrictions’) — otherwise appears you have to sign up directly with Sherpa? 🛃 (2) Foursquare. Wasn’t aware of this hack so 👍🏻👍🏻. Guess one should jot down the password prior to getting to the retail establishment (assuming you don’t have cell service) otherwise can’t log in anyway. 🤔 (3) Phone/Text Service. I’ve used TextFree app for years since it’s free, only family has my “phone number,” and given I choose to not have a cell phone plan—only wifi. Sounds a lot like Google Fi. I’ve only tested TextFree in the US (phone and text messaging both work). Will test on our next trip abroad to confirm TextFree works as an alternative to an “international plan” offered by AT&T. 💸👎🏻💸 Hope this tip helps. Cheers. 🎉

  12. Excellent tips. Thanks! I will definitely check out Sherpa, Foursquare, and Google Voice (I'm already a WhatsApp user). And I'm all on board with going the carry-on only route. Convincing Sunny might not be so easy though. 😅 I better start working on that. Great pointers this episode, but unless my eyes are deceiving me, Carrie's beer looks about 4 ounces shy of a pint. Better go find those missing 4 oz. 😅 "See you" on Saturday. Cheers! 🍻

  13. Thank you for the useful tips! We use Away bags for years, but recently purchased Beis suitcase – it's expandable and has weight built-in indicator that goes red, if you are over 50lbs. Love that feature! We also got Global Entry to avoid long lines on arrival back to USA.

  14. Hi B&C. Thanks for the tips. I fully agree with you on the idea of carry on (no checked in large bag). In our last 3 trips of 3 week duration in Europe we resorted to hand carried only. 2 duffel bags one each for me and my wife and a backpack for self and wife's small purse.
Duffels are by themselves light and allows more stuff to pack meeting the tight carry on rules of local airlines. It was a bit of a hassle having to carry but saved the hassle of checked in bags, the time and the handling between places.
On the US phone connectivity side, all of our family contacts have Whatsapp, and used them widely to stay in touch including the Air BnB hosts.
We started carrying the Magic Jack adapter with us since the last trip. The device costs $49.99, and comes with 1 year free service. It is half the size of a PC mouse. They give you a US phone number. It comes with a USB on one side and a phone jack on the other end. You plug the USB side to any laptop, and you have your same ph # wherever in the world you are as long as your laptop is connected to a WIFI, or a Local LAN. It was very useful to call the bank / credit card company/ Dr. office etc. The renewal rate after 1 years is about $30/year. we love it and the connectivity it offers. While back in the US it is our land line and it works with cordless sets.
Finally the Foursquare tip is really great and thanks for that and the sherpa site too. Best regards.
