It is one of life’s greatest pleasures: after weeks of planning, ticket buying, bookings, research, dreadful airports etc, *you have finally arrived to your dream destination*.
You check into your hotel, take a shower, put on clean clothes *and walk out to a brand new place*, a place you have never seen before!
It is best if you do not speak the language and can experience the local blabla as exotic birdsong drifting downwards from the trees. It is great if you have not studied the destination very thoroughly, so you can kind of discover it haphazardly, stumbling into your own trip half by accident. And it is absolutely glorious if the cuisine is great, so you can punctuate your wanderings with many many stops for coffees, snacks, tapas, wines, desserts and all sorts of *mysterious local* goodies you have never tasted before and can find nowhere else.
Ah, the first day of travel…
