Joana Vasconcelos: «The Tree of Life project will take place in the Sainte-Chapelle of the Château de Vincennes. It is 13 meters high, all in metal and covered in fabric. This magic textile tree brings a baroque dimension to contemporary art. It comes in black, gold, red and orange, and is inspired by Bernini’s sculpture of Daphne. I visited Villa Borghese where it is on display and imagined the tree into which Daphne would turn. Later I was invited to take part in the Portugal–France Season and create an installation for Vincennes’ Sainte-Chapelle. The environment there inspired me to bring nature inwards and reinforce the magical dimension of the chapel with a dialogue with the stained glass windows, which are of great beauty, transporting the tree from the outside in. As a symbol of transformation, of evolution, of relationship between the past and the contemporary.»

Joana Vasconcelos: «O projeto Árvore da Vida vai acontecer na Sainte-Chapelle do Château de Vincennes. Tem 13 metros de altura, toda em metal e revestida em tecido. Esta mágica árvore têxtil traz uma dimensão barroca à arte contemporânea. É toda feita em preto, dourado, vermelho e laranja e inspirada na escultura da Dafne de Bernini. Visitei a Villa Borghese, onde está exposta, e perguntei-me como seria a árvore em que a Dafne se transformou. Mais tarde fui convidada a participar na Temporada Portugal-França e a fazer uma intervenção na Sainte-Chapelle de Vincennes. O espaço inspirou-me a trazer a natureza para dentro da capela, e reforçar a sua dimensão mágica da capela dos vitrais de grande beleza, transportando a árvore de fora para dentro. Como símbolo de transformação, de evolução, de relação entre o passado e o contemporâneo».
