Is your puppy an Australian Shepard? My daughter has a mainly Border Collie mix and she is a great trail dog! The herd dog tendency to stay with the flock (us) keeps her in eye sight of us and we never worry she will run off. And their hearts are 30% larger than most dogs their size so even if we walk 20 miles and she circles us all day and walks 40, she's still good to go.
