We are in the middle of renovating our house in an abandoned Portuguese village. In this episode i start with the work on the septic tank that is very needed..
My name is Jasper and i bought a house in a Portuguese ghost town. Together with my dogs Zoey & Akira we show you the rebuild of our house and what it is like living the daily life in Central Portugal.

We have an outdoor shower so the water just goes back into the land.
Happy birthday to the dude Duarte!
Happy belated birthday Duarte. Hope you had a super day 🎈
Where the hell is the leach field??? Do you even have one. You can use high pressure hose to blast it open.. or spinning blade plumbers flex to cut through that. Create separate septic. And create leach field. It was Mike Rowe dirty jobs
You can buy bacteria packs and flush them down toilet and they breed inside tank decomposing waste.
jasper and your friends, to stop having your video cables lying around on the ground between your house and the mini house, wouldn't you have the possibility of planting 3 wooden poles 3 meters high, 50cm of which would be sunk in the ground, giving you at the same time if you think it useful, the possibility of making you 1 plate on each post or at the height of a man to possibly serve as a support for your cameras, putting them also more in security than on simple tripods thus clearing the way very widely without having to constantly check that you are not stepping on your cables, it will give you, your activities and your female dogs a feeling of greater freedom on your land, the cables would be now high above your heads?
Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs…
We had a slightly different problem we could see where the pipe came out but didn't know where the septic was hidden, we got a pipe investigation camera that connects to the mobile, although we found more pipes we still haven't found the septic which seems to be hidden under concrete, we need a longer camera! Good luck 🙂 Happy birthday Duarte
Get your face out of the bloody camera it's not a mirror for your vanity and get on with the work.
We do our dishes in a wash bin and get water from the shower too! We connected our dishwasher so most of the dishes are done the easy way now. 😝 But some of the wine glasses need to be washed by hand and sometimes it’s just relaxing to wash dishes.
By the time you read all the comments you’ll have a PHD in septics . 👍
Happy Birthday Duarte! Hope you had a great day.
Hi guys are you live at 8pm tonight ? Happy belated Birthday Duarte 🎂😻
Happy 16th birthday Duarte 👍🎂🎊🎉
From what I know about drains is there has to be a vent pipe somewhere else you would be creating a vacuum with each flush which in turn leads to air pocket, secondly I would have thought there would be a rodding point to get access to the drain to unblock if required and why would the tank be so close to the house if its self draining, is there not a risk of your waste getting into the aquifers? And would maybe think of once you find the drain to install a rodding eye point . Oh and one last thing it's easier to dig with boots then bloody sliders lol
Happy Birthday Duarte!=8)
Why not use a camera probe and feed it into the hole in the floor of the bathroom to see which direction it'll go?
concert tickets to one of his favorite bands , a nights stay at a hotel and a nice dinner. Duarte is a ROCKSTAR!
Happy 16th Birthday Duarte!!!
Jasper , always start digging around the edges of the septic tank to find where the pipe is connected to the septic tank and then dig from there to where other end is . This takes out all the guess work and some extra digging.
🎊"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUARTE" 🎊 ~ hope you have a fabulous day! 🎉🙂x
Gefeliciteerd Duarte met je 16de verjaardag..🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 bosje filmpjes voor jou..
Caro tip?? Wat dacht je van een metaal Detector? Wie weet wat je voor Portugees schatten je vind…
Try Costic Soda and very hot water down the drains to clean the pipes – i pour the costic soda in my kitchen sink, basin and shower as well as bath to clean the pipes
Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs
too many people, I'll bet too much TP which the septic was never designed for.
You could probably hook up your showers to a new French drain, dig it deeper than you think, and longer.
Your toilets … maybe its bacteria is old, I think it just cant handle the amounts.
tbh I would start digging from the tank back to the house rather than your way
I‘m so sorry can‘t help but the jump into the pool was great👍
Happ Birthday Duarte🥳🌻🎂
LOL… eat less / work more… just joking.
Hi Jasper, Big Happy Birthday 16th to Duarte. Have an amazing day with friends and family. Jasper if you break it open there will be a stink, you may have to install a second tank…….I do hope you can find the pipe and hopefully unblock it. Though in the long run/ future a second tank might be better. Love your videos/music. Duarte's birthday present a CD of his favourite pop band or a meal at his favourite restaurant. Stay safe, stay hydrated. This weather will break soon
I have owned my home for 34 years and only pumped my septic tank once when I first bought the home. I have never added anything to my tank to feed the bacteria. I limit chemicals use and the bacteria stays healthy. When I first bought my home the toilets stopped draining so I had the tank pumped. The tank was full of gunk. It has had no problems since.
Jasper I hope you find the septic tank line . You also might need something else to dig with .
Jasper, donantonio has got the right idea. I think you should start finding the drainage pipes from the septic tank end, First uncover the septic tank and excavate around it till you find the inlet and then excavate back along the pipe to the house. Uncovering the tank will also tell you whether it is full, whether the microbes/bacteria are breaking down the solids and draining the cleaner effluent into the drainage field. Be careful what chemicals are going into the septic tank, Many concentrated detergents will kill the bacteria.
Happy b-day Duarte 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Jasper, the part in the floor with the sand in it is for that, to catch the sand, the water leaves out of the other part.
Happy Birthday to Duarte!… Parabens
You could try 'soda cáustica' caustic soda , mix with warm water and pour it down the drains, just in case is a blockage, if anything is stuck it will move it… then if blockage is still there you need to look at that septic tank, oh joy😉
Good luck mate!
Happy birthday Duarte….🎂🍻cheers
happybirthday to Duarte I would give him som paper and colours so he can work with his art in your beutifull area – why not wash up outside? – on a table – instede of in the zink at the toilet / and pee in something where you can mix with water and use it for watering the garden – I do that in my small colony garden without toilet- ( 1 pee to 5 water mix and the trees and busches love it ) for the period you are so many persons – untill you find the septiktank – like to follow your work and joy – ( I am a old danish women – who follow off grid people in portugal ) all the best to you and your company
Happy 16th Birthday Duarte 🙂 Jasper, an outdoor shower and another septic system will sort the problem (as well as not washing your dishes in the sink!) In the short term maybe you could use a small washing up bowl in the sink but empty the bowl outside (your olive trees could take turns) It seems to me that there is no point in wasting much effort on that septic system when it works perfectly for fewer people. I saw an antique Portuguese shower made out of a metal bucket with small tap on the bottom, it was hung by the handle on a large nail 🙂 – maybe you could make one with a shower hose attachment for the garden? That would make an interesting little video 🙂
