We’ve been really busy since we first arrived in the Castelo Branco district in Central Portugal – we’ve been exploring the local area, as you may have seen in the previous video, and we have also been viewing properties which is very exciting. On our current list of criteria is at least one acre of fertile land and a building to renovate that we can live in with our family. So, with this mind, we found these two properties online, arranged a viewing, and decided to share the experience here for anyone interested in learning more about what kinds of properties are available.
We hope it’s useful and let us know in the comments if you have any questions. This video isn’t meant as a tour video as such (as that’s quite difficult when viewing the property for ourselves) but rather sharing the viewing experience with you.
Who are we?
We’re a family of five from the UK (Layla, Russ and our three children); we sold our house and Russ quit his job so that we can pursue our dream to live a simpler, slower, more sustainable life.
Back in 2018, we decided to buy our beautiful Blossom, a Mercedes Vario ex library bus, to turn into our home on wheels. In March 2021, we finally moved in and set off on our adventures, starting in England and Wales, then Ireland and now in Portugal.
Our family have been home educating for a good few years (which we love) and now we have taken our children’s education (and ours!) on the road. Find us on Instagram
And don’t forget to say hello in the comments – we love to connect with our viewers,
Love from the Mitchells xox

Hi Layla,
It has been awhile since I last watched your channel. In fact I almost forgotten about your channel! But then I came across your recent journey to Portugal, a place that I once thought of relocating to but no longer interests me though your family journey to find a home in such a strange place was interesting to watch. I feel so alone in Malaysia after being separated from my British husband and presently trying to find my way back to return to work as a Carer in UK and resettle in UK. Still it is very brave of you to venture to Portugal though it is not that far from UK. Though Portugal would no longer be on my future itinerary, I would still be interested to follow your family adventures in Portugal.
We liked the first one but Betsy says “but can you move back to ireland please” enjoyed the virtual tours
Room with a View ..🙂 well don't forget ..Estate agents view the blogs also n Hike the price accordingly..I'm sure Fruit is Cheap in Portugal as I've seen it Rotting into the ground.on my many visits there over the years.. A view is Nice but you can't Eat it … I was buying in Spain year's ago..n they kept pushing up the price ..so I just abandoned the idea…it's all so Romantic But But But….anyway Don't Rush into Anything … Make sure ye stay out of 🔥 Zones .. Peace and Happiness and Happy Hunting 😎 🇨🇮
I think 50 thousand euro for the second property is a good price. Because it is quite a big house, legally for habitation, plus a nice barn. And a big piece of land, big enough for most people. Only thing is, the location, and the surroundings, if this suites you or not.
First property is maybe a bit expensive. But it could be a dream property for someone else. And prices are often negociable.
I get the impression there has been a price rise in Portugal as in UK over the last two years. My feeling is prices in Portugal have been inflated unrealistically by interest from people following YouTube, Spain prices are not rising as fast. Ken and Gina at OK Portugal bought a great farm, liveable house and good land, I think it was around 50K. If you have the money and are on the spot you will get what you are looking for your budget. It is the guys looking for the land and building for 5K that will struggle to find what they are looking.
