Maldives Visa Issues – Work Visa / Business for Indians

There is an unofficial visa issue for Indians traveling to the Maldives

Officially after lots of media reports,

Maldives immigration has clarified that there are no changes in the policies for issuing visas for Indians. It is done as per the procedure.

Also Maldives has issued thousand of visas to Indians as per this report

It is the sovereign right of every country to decide to issue or not issue visa for a foreigner, so Maldives does it accordingly

Work visa for Indians

There are many instances of work visa not being issued for Indian passport holders which has been reported in the media

India has also on the other side made it clear that there are no changes in policies for issue visas to Moldavians

But India has changed the liberal status to more stricter to the Maldivian seeking visas or traveling to the Maldives

Earlier, Maldivian were allowed to enter India without a pre approved visa for medical purposes, but now the rules are implemented strictly and there were instances of strong actions from the Indian side.

Same is happening from the Maldives side too, rules are very strictly followed for Indians coming to maldives, including tourists.

Anybody coming to the Maldives for vacations should have a confirmed resort booking, not a hotel booking in the capital Male’. A tourist does not come to the Maldives and stay in a hotel in the Capital City Male’ for holidays. All the tourists coming to Maldives should have a confirmed resort booking.

Coming to the Maldives for anything other than vacations or tourism needs a business visa or a work visa or incase of dependents, its dependent visa or even student visa which has to be pre approved before arrival

There were also reports of job vacancies advertisements saying that Indians Need not apply as reported by the Hindu News paper

As of now, existing work visa for Indians are being renewed, new work visa are issued only for very specific cases.

I can confirm that new visas are issued but at a very low pace and after long due process.

I recently was contacted by an Indian who got a job as a site engineer for a resort project in the Maldives and has also got his work visa.

The ratio of Indian Expatriates working in the Maldives is very high compared to other countries and offcourse there are some political reasons for this tension between Indian and Maldives
