Russian President Vladimir Putin has recognized the independence of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine. He made the announcement in a televised speech to the nation on Monday night.
The Russian leader signed a decree recognizing Luhansk and Donetsk, as well as friendship and aid agreements with the two separatist territories.
The move is expected to escalate fears among Western nations about a Russian invasion of Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron have “expressed disappointment” in phone calls with Putin. In his address, Putin said he was confident the Russian people would support his decision. He also described Ukraine as a vital part of Russia’s history.

1962 Nikita Khrushchev removed missiles from Cuban sovereign territory because the USA felt threatened. Russia will fight a war to prevent the perceived threat of Nato. Nato should revoke Nato membership and back off out of ex Soviet block countries and not belligerently prevoke wars!
When you develop an apparatus such as Nato you must consider the perceived threat of others countries and adapt. Nato should be a peace promoting organization. Not a povecator of war. It has failed!

Ukraine had better fire missiles into Russia because Russia is attacking Ukraine. This is war and the Russian people should not be spared the effects of war that their dictator wants. The war should spill over onto Russian soil and not just Ukraine.

I'd rather Putin as my President than Biden. Ukranians may have a different view, but regardless let's stay out even economically. Don't turn a private squabble into a world war or an economic disaster.

That was an interesting point that Ukraine didn't implement the Minsk ceasefire agreement because if they had then Donetsk and Lugansk would have political representation in parliament.
That's a sly and underhanded thing for a government to do to its own people, no wonder Donetsk and Lugansk have gone for independence instead.
