Vlog #71 Why Portugal for a New Life What Makes You Happy

In this video I’ve moved on to Sintra in the Lisbon district for my next house sit. I waffle on about what brought me to Portugal from the Uk to start a new life.

  1. I would love to here the rest of your journey in Portugal. You do make me laugh when you say “waffling on”, I find all your stories really interesting. I’ve followed you from day one quietly. One thing I love about your vlogs are they are completely different from other YouTubers. So down to earth and truthful. With plenty of beautiful animals thrown. Looking forward to the next vlog.

  2. Considering you have gone or nearly gone all over Portugal, where would you buy if you would like to buy a house and why that part…been following you since lockdown, always lovely to get your take and perspective on life out there …I have been looking for a while myself but being in Australia visits cannot be that frequent…as you say research and research🙏🙌🙌🌻

  3. Yes!!! I would love to hear more about your journey. I am retired in Vancouver Canada and will be checking out Portugal. My family is from the Azores and southern Spain. I also am considering doing some house/pet sitting such as you have done to thoroughly explore the country.

  4. So loved this video Luise. I've been lurking in the background watching your videos but have never commented. I just love books and feel a comfort from them just having them around……digital books just don't cut it. I would love to hear more about your thoughts on living in Portugal and what your plans are for the future. For those of us contemplating a move to Portugal it's great to hear what has motivated others to make the move and what the reality is. Thank you for your entertaining rambles! 🙂

  5. You know I am interested in your thoughts about establishing your long term base. Smallholding or cottage. I like the idea of having a small cottage in a village or small provincial town with land nearby as a vegetable garden, olive grove or fruit orchard, with a day shack, that is how the Portuguese do it. Of course a a smallholding with a barn or farmhouse would be lovely, but potentially expensive. These guys did exactly that, they bought their village house in Portugal for 6000euro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN5fn_LhuZc 💞

  6. Hi Louise, love your stories and rambling… it’s like listening to myself? 😂 I’ve watched all your videos.
I am from Sydney Australia but parents are from Portugal. I try to visit there every 3 years.
Your perspective on life in Portugal is spot on. Especially cold houses!
I would love to here more of your reasons for choosing Portugal as I’m also at that stage in my life – do I stay here or up my life and live in Portugal.
Big decisions ahead. Take care and Happy Birthday

  7. I can't wait to hear more about about your life and how you got into pet sitting.
I'm so happy you bit the bullet and beat the brexit deadline.
I tried my best but in 2020 my 2 dogs needed their vaccination update and and the vets were only doing emergency appointments.
One is my aid dog so there was no way I could have left them here in the UK whilst I sorted things out.
Two years on you have really learnt so much about Portugal 🇵🇹 and in turn your subscribers.
I love your unedited videos. Keep them coming. You keep it real 💯

  8. I just love your rambles and stories. Every time you step out of the front door you never truly know where your path will end up, but the journey should be fun. Do you ever plan something and end up doing else instead. Keep on influencing Luise. I don’t know where I’m going with this…but I know I like bacon!😂😂😂

  9. It's true what you said, cold floor are most used, I have at home on social area, but I agree it's cold! Some places like the one I live, has humidity from Sintra and from the sea, so we have to thorough clean the home at least twice a year. In what concerns tea, there are lots of marvelous teas, " Cantinho das Aromáticas" has marvelous bilogical, and the Gorreana from Açores and there are english teas as well. Continente at Cascais Shopping has and also at El Corte Ingles.

  10. I'd love to hear what your plans are going forward. The house sits are such a great way to get a feel for different parts of the country. I'd especially love to know the names of some towns and/or neighborhoods you love. I'm similar in age to you, require more sun than others, and want a small place but have some budget constraints. Unlike you I'm a city person but, given covid, I want to get away from people, so apartment living is not an option. However I don't want the hard core fire risk of the remote rural areas; I've had enough of that here in the US. Trying to find a balance of sun, affordability, fire risk that can be mitigated, and a small house with a garden. I'm not familiar with Europe so I would especially love to hear your thoughts on where in Europe you would go if you had to leave Portugal, and if there are Countries where the residents made it clear that you're not welcome due to race. Whatever you feel comfortable commenting on is appreciated.

  11. Omg Louise I’m the exact same with books 📚 I love seeing them on my bookshelves but haven’t read most of them ☺️it infuriates my bookworm daughters 🤣I thought I was the only one 🤗💕you’re the reason I wanted to live in Portugal 🇵🇹 I can’t wait for your part 2 ☕️🧁

  12. would love to hear more….this resonates so much with me….about to come to Central in a van and look for property….just because we can and want to…..long story….anyway love watching the vlogs I'm.just a bit rubbish with mine ans trying so hard to do vlogmas …its a commitment

  13. I love watching you on You Tube. Have you ever did a commercial for Hungry Root There is a girl on there that looks and sounds a lot like you. I too have a dream to move to Portugal. We took a trip to the Duruo River area and I feel in love. My husband will not even consider leaving the USA, so for now my dream is on hold. I keep planning, maybe I will by a holiday home there.

  14. I absolutely am interested in learning more about how your thoughts and feelings about living in Portugal have evolved since you first arrived! I think i found your channel not long after you arrived and have enjoyed tagging along with you since.

I've really liked your desire to get to visit and become more familiar different areas of and types of accommodation in Portugal. How else can you know what & where you'd like to live until you get to try out different things?! 😊👍🏼 Your meeting and interviewing other immigrants is also valuable in getting the lay of the land.

And as new as you were to Portugal, i'll always remember how you reached out to other newcomers and volunteered your handy helping hands to them with their projects. You set the best example of embracing the new life you pursue. 💖 Very happy and very damp-free 🎄🌟 hoildays, Luise 🤗
